Jim Hall drive Chaparral 2D
They ran the Chaparral 2D yesterday. This time Jim Hall - the MAN himself - was behind the wheel.
Here's a video of him giving it the once-over before climbing in. It was awesome seeing him looking at the car. I wonder what was going through his mind - the old days? how the car was restored?
I introduced myself (again) and said hello. He's a super nice guy.
He joked when climbing in the cockpit that he used to do it alot easier in the old days.
He was a little more aggressive than the regular driver. I think he was even going to do a burnout a couple of times. He stopped the car and sounded like he was reving the engine ready to launch it.
I'll upload more video and pictures later.
I've got some shots of him behind the wheel.

Some interesting observations
- It has a working horn - as did all (I think). Someone said the 2A has a bicycle horn.
- It has turn signals
- It has a license plate on the back
- It has a spare tire (per rules) but it is a "space saver" spare like many cars today. It isn't the size of the other tires.
- The air box over the carbs has clear plexiglass front and back so you could see behind you in the mirror.
- The ignition "box" was mounted on a pedastal on the right side so it was in the middle of an air duct on the back panel to cool it off.
- There is a large crossover pipe between the headers about at the collectors. (didn't know they did that back then...)
- There is a wire frame on the front of the car that looks like it holds something. I thought a license plate but it would be behind the front body panel. Mr. Hall fiddled with it a little but said he couldn't remember what it was for. (I think I have a shot of it).

He still owns most of them, so that's why you don't see them at vintage events. He displays many of them at the Petroleum museum in Midland Texas.
