Default best track/street tire?

I just got a second set of wheels for track/street and need some tires. It's not a daily driver and I'm looking for a tire that will be good on the track (HPDE & autocross) but also ok for street use. I'm not too concerned with wear being that I don't drive it all that much, but I don't want a tire that will be dangerous if I'm caught in the rain on the street. I'm planning on some mods (C6) that will put me around 500hp. Any thoughts?

I used Falken Azenis 615s last year in similar situations on my C4 (I don't know what sizes they come in for larger wheels). Over 1000 km of track driving, and at least 125 autox runs (always had two drivers at weekly events), and no drama whatsoever. Not the fastest tire out there (look to the Kumhos or Hoosiers for that) but they were predictable, and a good street/track tire.

A bunch of guys are using the General Exclaim UHP with favourable reviews in similar situations locally (on F-bodies and Mustangs).

If cost is not an issue, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup would be another choice.

Finding a good combo in stock (or near-stock) C6 sizes might be an issue but check out the new Kumho XS from Tire Rack. It should be an equal to the Azenis 615 for track/autocross and some street use and TR always has good prices.

But with any combo tire, running them in the rain or in very cold temps may be an issue. You just have slow down and be careful.

I was very happy with the Nitto 555RII Extreme road race tire. Last year I ran 8 track weekends, 1 AutoX and a lot of street miles in between before I swapped them out. They offer very good grip for a high treadwear rated dual purpose R compound. I would highly highly recommend them.

F = 275/40/17
R = 305/35/18

Looks like my choices are limited due to the 19" rears. Kumho Ecsta XS and the Toyo T1R.

Nitto 555RII doesn't come in sizes for a C6. Same to whoever suggested the 17in/18in combo. :-)

You're looking at the Toyo R888 or RA-1 depending on wheel sizes for the C6, for the most part.

Take some of that 500hp budget and put it towards a nice set of CCW Corsairs... 18x10+18x11...

I use Kumho V710's. I don't have them shaved. They handle great, but they will wear quicker on the edges if you roll tire onto the edge. I was a little low on the pressure and rolled them. I haven't had them in the rain yet, but that is the reason I bought these.
