Where to mount d-rings in trailer for C5?
I have just ordered a trailer to haul the car and misc parts to the track (no, it's not turning into a trailer queen  ).
The manufacturer of the trailer wants to know where I would like the D-rings for the tiedowns. Since the shipping slots on the side rails are not an option for attaching tiedowns, the next best bet is to secure the car by strapping to the A-arms.
Which leads to where to put the D-rings.....it appears that they should go in line with the front and rear of the car, along the wheel track. So the front ones would be just in front of the front tires, and the rear ones would be just rearward of the rear tires.
This would keep the straps from rubbing on the body of the car, and allow for good angles on the straps for keeping the car in one spot.
Anybody have thoughts or real world experience on this?
THANKS! :chevy

On most trailers the "D" rings go in a standard place & you use different length (or adjustable) tie down straps to place your car in the corrct place on the trailer .. you should ask the manufacturer where they normally put them - placement should allow you to move the car forward or backward to the point of placing 400 to 500 lbs tounge wait on the hitch, so that you will not experience "trailer wiggle" ...

On the c5's I believe that you want to use the factory tie down points and the proper "J" hooks. Attach the rings so you can cross the staps over - this will prevent sideways movement of the car. Using the frame points on the car makes it more solid and let's the trailer suspension do what it's designed to do.

Travis,
Thanks for the reply - however I'm a little confused. In my initial post I mentioned that it is not feasible to use the factory shipping holes on the siderails.
How did you go about doing this while still being able to utilize d-rings in front or behind the car? And how did you cross the straps?

Travis I got my two 2" Sleeved Axle Straps (33") Code: AUT-2503 and my two 2" Race Car Ratchet Tie Downs (10 ft.) Code: AUT-3510 at this site location http://www.racerwholesale.com/Mercha...ler+%26+Towing - it's Racers Wholesale & a very good place to buy towing & racing gear .. I hooked the tie downs up with one end thru the "D" rings & the other end thru the axles straps ... you can cross tie the straps (ie right "D" ring to left axle strap, etc.) .. hope this helps ..
good luck

Decided to get the trailer after all, eh?
You get rid of the go-cart trailer, or are you "combining efforts"? :D

John, I'm sorry, but I don't have a picture of the car on the trailer, but if you go look at the site I linked above, you can see the tie downs & axle straps & I believe that you can visualize the process..

I think I'm ith the shipping holes. I do not want he suspension tweaked and the bushings worn.
