Default Fehan comments re: GT2 roll cage

From 11/09 Racecar Engineering:

When Corvette [sic] first developed the C6.R it employed a steel chassis, which was not from the original base model. However, the new car uses an aluminium frame [per ACO and FIA GT2 rules].
...
The problem was, mating a steel rollcage to an aluminium chassis was not something GM racing was happy doing. 'It simply didn't provide a level of safety that met GM Racing's stringent standards,' explains Fehan. 'Consequently, we have developed a proprietary installation method that is consistent with GM's commetment to driver safety.'
'Analysis and physical testing of structural components suggest that this is the safest GT car on the track. We carried over the energy-absorbing panels in the doors, the door bar structure, the crush structure, the right-side safety net and other safety features from the GT1 Corvettes. These are not mandatory, but we chose to add those components at a considerable cost and weight disadvantage because driver safety is our top priority.'
Of course the weight disadvantage part is hooey but the rest is interesting, esp. re the rollcage installation.

Typical Doug. He strings a bunch of words together but doesn't say anything.

Pratt & Miller is not going to post pictures of their "proprietary installation method".

I wish they would weld in threaded billet reinforcements at strategic locations in the aluminum frames, like they do at the suspension points..........

Check out the latest issue of RACE TECH magazine, they have an article that explains a bit more, on how the cage was attached to the chassis.
