Default Tranny question??

Ive got an RPM stage 5 tranny about a year now. Just changed fluids in tranny & diff. For the last month or so ive been noticing that the shifts are notchy. Not as smooth. Had the shift linkage adjusted aswell. Ive called RPM, they said i could be the clutch. I really dont know at this point.
Any sugestions.

This seems to be a recurring theme with these transmissions. There is an individual reporting the same problem in the C-5 tech section. A representative from RPM has posted recently stating he would help the OP troubleshoot his problem. You may want to take a look at it to see what the resolution, or lack of it is.

is it grinding, or just hard(er) from gear to gear?

is it consistent from 1-6? (ie, did they all start getting worse at the same time?)

what type of fluid are you running?

I noticed a positive difference in shifting feel when I switched from Royal Purple SYNCROMAX ATF to Redline D4 ATF.

How many times have you changed the trans fluid since you got this trans?

and a great synthetic trans fluid does wonders.

I change my fluid every 4 track weekends and have a trans cooler.

My RPM Stage 5 was just sent back. Lost 5th gear completely and it is hard to shift into 4th gear.

Running Redline and change fluid every 4 track days.

Ive had the oil changed 4x with synchromax. Seems that 2nd gear is the problem. Pops out of gear on downshift + not smooth shift into 2nd.
Will have to inspect tranny and take it from there. Will post solution.
Thanks to all your input & help. Rpm has been very helpfull aswell.

Sounds like you've got more than a fluid problem... either shift linkage or internals. These things are picky on fluids though. Redline D4 has the best overall shift feel for a readily available oil, but I found like many other ATF's, it get's notchy at extremely high temps that you might see in a long road race session if you're using the factory trans cooler (my exp is with a C6Z tho).

RS: have you tried going to the $5 car wash? It might not fix your problem, but you could leave there with a clean car.
