Default Wrecked the Vette

I was coming back from the Friday Tech Inspection for Audi at Barber and hydroplaned into a Ford Explorer. I had just decided earlier today to sell my car and buy a dedicated track car for next year. I had even typed up the ad on Craigslist. Looks like I will be keeping this one now. Low speed, no injuries, hopefully no frame damage. Still sucks though.

On the bright side I am glad it happened on the street so my insurance covers it. The cop said on his way to my accident he hit some water and hydroplaned off the road but didn't hit anything. Hopefully I get it back soon so I can start turning it into a track car.

I have more close calls going to and from the track than I ever do on track. Glad you're ok and the car can always be put back together. Time to start gutting.

I am trying to make a list of all the things I will need to do and estimated costs, so I will be ready when The Goose is fixed. Any help would be appreciated.

Cage
Racing Seats
Harnesses
Square wheel and tire setup - would like to ditch the street tires
Suspension - Only have C5Z sways
Cooling - Not sure what will be necessary. Brake ducts, oil, transmission
Brakes - have NAPA rotors and C5Z pads with stock calipers

And anything else I will need.

First figure a budget or your spending over time if are you going to do that! It adds up to a small fortune.

My first goal is to make it to the track next time before I run out of talent. I would say within the next couple years I might get into TT, but I don't really have an interest in W2W yet. I think mainly I will just be doing HPDE.

Budget wise I could swing $5K for upgrades over the Winter with safety being my first goal, reliability being second, and speed being third.

That's what they all say.

Seriously though that really stinks about smashing up the car.

$5k should about cover the cage. :-) Pick somebody good to do the cage... a cheap cage may well be a cheap cage...

For DE work, skip the "all-out" cage. Get a bolt in and bolt it in PROPERLY(that may mean welding bulkheads in to bolt it to the frame...not the sheet metal).

Get a head restraint. 100x's more important in DE work than a race cage.

Take the insurance money, fix the car back, then sell it.

Take that money and buy a car already done, you'll save $,000's of dollars and the car will already be sorted out.

My wife and came by where you had your wreck Friday night, we had just left tech inspection at the hotel, and were headed to the track to unload the car. I am sorry that happened to you and glad no injuries involved, the streets were very wet and I understand how that could have happened. Hope to see again soon...
