Where do you buy your gas at HPDE events?
Hey guys.
I'm gathering some information for the NCM Motorsports Park.
Wondering if gas revenues are a significant amount.
All comments / suggestions are welcome.

I voted "Other" because I bring gas with me, but I also purchase gas at the track. I have two 5 gallon jugs that I fill up on the way to the track and will use them before I start using the track gas. Not only am I partial to BP, but track gas is always at least a dollar more per gallon.
Besides, you never know when one of my track buddies is going to run out or need a quick gallon or two before a session.

Depends on the track. At Sears Point, the Sunoco 91 is the same price as all the other local gas stations selling 91, so you can just buy it there without feeling ripped off. At Laguna Seca, the 91 is 2x the market price, so I fill up before I enter the track, but refill at the track since the closest gas station is a good ways out. At Thunderhill, 91 is also 2x market price, so I like to fill up in town, although they discourage that since you're not supporting the track by paying the extra high premium.

I fill up before rolling down to the track, but I'll fill up at the track for the afternoon sessions. I can't be bothered to leave the track just to save a few bucks, honestly. Although I've watched guys risk their Hoosier A6/R6s driving 5-10mi on public/rural roads to save a few bucks...

I just went out and bought six 5-gallon cans for next year because I was tired of being gouged at the track on gas. If it was the same price I would gladly buy it at the track.

If the price of 93 octane is no more than $1 more per gallon, I will gladly pay for the convenience. When it is $2 and more is when it bothers me. Add to that the fact that I am willing to bet that 93 octane at the track sitting in its tank has a lower turnover rate than the local gas station and I start worrying about contaminants and such.
To the point made above, you have to have 100 and 116 for the race car guys. But keep the price reasonable even though they have limited options. Don't gouge them just because you can.
My .02. I'll take change if needed.

Always top the car off and bring 15 gal in jugs to the track. This is sufficient for most HPDE events. If I have to purchase additional it is at the track. Summit Point and VIR don't rape you too badly on price at the pumps. Having 93 at close to the outside prices would be a BIG BENEFIT !! I also agree with Golden Eagle - 100 Sonoco at non confiscatory prices is a must.

When I raced World Challenge, I often carried my own fuel due to cost. We were required to run a spec fuel, but I could get if from a local distributor for half what they charged at the track.
However, in normal DE's and club racing, I usually run what is available track side. I tend to keep my track-day cars low compression so that I can run whatever is available. Still though, I usually drag along several 6-gallon containers of fuel, since fuel at and around the tracks is always sold at inflated prices.
I voted "other" because I've done it all.

Gas prices at the tracks I've been to seem to be double or tripple the prices out side the track. If the prices were comperable I'm sure alot more drivers would by gas at the track.
