The Vette driver either doesn't want to ball up his car, or (s)he's a new driver doing what he's (s)he' suppose to do, taking it easy until he learns.

Maybe he's using that video for marketing purposes?

that's what I'm thinking.
Put Michael Schumacher in a just about any car and he's going to beat a novice in just about anything.
Just wanting this to get back to the driver if possible.

Comment on his Youtube page! I was tempted. The comment about the Corvette drivers pushing it hard was just to funny. Then at the end his car broke!

Did you tell him a Miata can run a faster lap time?

heh... thats what i said in OT.. 2:15 makes the thread invalid.
i would assume that car would be around TTA (NASA Rules).. one class down at the lowest ... 2:13 is right on pace with the track record for the class 3 below that. 1997 944 - 2:11

I think the best lap was a 2:11 with some traffic, that's nothing to write home about. I have turned 2:06's in a 292 RWHP C4 and there are a quite a few C5 Z06's & C5 FRC's that routinely do 2:02's or below.

That clip shows some very late, if not in the corner, passes. Liberal passing rules? If so it was probably an advanced session and thus the Vette drivers are not rookies. But that doesn't mean they were pushing it hard - you can never tell from a clip like this if the driver in front is sandbagging it.
Griggs makes some top notch stuff, at a price that makes your head spin.

The intraweb is a funny place. I am sure there are threads about Mini Coppers vs Z's and 350z vs Z06's etc etc and how Neon SRT's are f4st3r
The griggs guy was wheeling that thing, and it broke. The Z06 guys did not seem to be doing anything aggressive outside of putting the hammer down in the straights.
Whatever, my dad is cooler than your dad
On top of that, I was only a few seconds off that on Wide Ovals by my 3rd session at Thunderhill on my first track day, and I am not fast by any means.

Haha. Looking at the laps, they were nothing special. Looks to be in the 2:10 range which is about 10 seconds off a well prepped C5/C6 on stickies. FWIW I used to run sub 2:00 in my C5Z on V710's.
Those Griggs cars are nothing special.

GR40Freak has replied to your comment on Griggs Racing GR40ST vs. C6 Z06 Corvettes at Thunderhill:
You're right.
In this case the Corvette drivers have a few decades of track experience... I have one year, 10 events under my belt... I, am the "newbe"

Somebody isn't trying very hard. I was running 2:07s on warped front brakes on Toyo R888s plonking along at 8/10ths effort or less at Thunderhill in that configuration. That's a C6 Z51 275/305 R888s, DRM coilovers, stock sways, Wilwood SL6R front brakes, Pfadt bushings, Ron Davis Rad. No dry sump and a sustained 1.2G around T2 so I soft peddle there... with just real tires and turning up the wick a bit I can't imagine not running 2:02s. And the car feels better [on the street] with more roll stiffness (bigger bars), too, so that's got to help.

Hey I'm old, inexperienced, and cautious and here's what I did a month earlier in my 365 rwhp C5Z . Of course I had some good tires and I was trying to get under 2 minutes, but I was never at 10/10ths. I'm sure the Griggs suspensions are great and I've seen their actual race cars in action. But these videos of hpde in what looks like low intermediate run groups with a pro level driver going 9/10ths in a mustang and claiming to have a better setup than everyone he passes is pretty funny.

Griggs is known more for their suspension than their tuner cars. They offer kits that truly transform how a Mustang corners. The original video makes some audacious claims, but I still find it entertaining. The first Z06 was definitely doing his best to out distance himself and the GT did a good job of keeping up. Driver skill played an obvious factor, but the GT was the definite underdog with a car that is nowhere near the level of the Z06. You have to admit that.
A C5 Z06 and base C6 are at worst mid 12 second cars in the quarter mile. A C6 Z06 is even faster! The GT will do mid to high 13's. On a track that size, it's horsepower deficit will definitely add to its time. Equalize the horsepower and weight, and it might level the playing field a little more, but the Corvette should still hold the advantage.
In the end it is still an HPDE event, and they were just having fun. It is not a true assessment of either car's abilities. There is no need to get your panties in a bunch.
Here are some other notable grigg equipped Mustangs showing some real speed.
