Default Rules of thumb for tire consumption?

Hi folks,

I'm running Toyo R888s and have between 3/32 and 4/32 of tread depth left (see pic below). I'm hoping to run two HPDE days at the end of April at NJMP, but with only a few events under my belt, I don't yet have a good sense of how quickly these tires wear.

Anyone have rules of thumb to offer on: whether I can likely (and safely) squeeze 1 day or two days out of these tires? General tire consumption rates / how the R888s wear down?

I'm going to be doing the rear widebody mod later this spring and will be going to wider wheels so I'd rather not buy new R888s until after the upcoming HPDE if I can safely avoid it.

Thanks,
Scott

Those tires will safely make it thru your NJMP event and beyond. Some us rarely use tires that look that good...LOL.

They are good till you see cords, actually I use them past that because I feel the steel belts give me extra grib

8/32" is full tread depth for the Toyo tires. You've just now got those tires heat cycled, they're truly coming into their own now.

My personal experience is with the Toyo RA-1s, and they'll have good grip until right before they cord. You've got enough life left for at least a couple of DEs, looking at the tire wear on the tire in the photo. Keep an eye on the inner and outer wear. I usually flip them (dismount, flip, and remount) once in their life; you might want to do that either before or after your next DE, whenever the tread depth on the edges gets down to about 2/32".

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

those look barely used. in my experience with toyo 888s, they heat cycle out to the point where they are unusable before the rubber is gone.

Thanks-- they're down to 3/32 - 4/32 of tread depth from 8/32nds (those grooves are DEEP when new), but it sounds like that's enough for folks here.

I'll likely flip the fronts and have at it.

I used to buy used R888s, they didn't have that much tread on them, and I always got 3 to 4 days out of them. I would flip them on the wheels though, to even the wear inside vs. outside.
