C2Z vs C5Z at MSR Cresson
I took my 1963 Z06 to MSR Cresson on Friday March 19th. We ran two 30 minute sessons of the upper course, clockwise. I drove my 04 Z06, which is stock except for VR-2B intake and Stoptech ST-60 brakes with 18" wheels and NT-05 tires. My friend Ted Filer drove my race car, then we traded rides for the next sesson. The 63 ran (sticker) Hoosier Street TD tires 225-60X15 front and 245-60X15 rear.
Understand that one car is on street tires, and one is on race tires. Nevertheless, the driver of the 04 could catch the driver of the 63, but could not overtake (pass) the 63.....no matter who was driving. Of course each driver gave "racing room" and there was no NASCAR "bump drafting", but still the two cars ran for an hour with different drivers who were both very experienced with both cars, and both cars ran VERY similar times. I was very impressed. The driving experience is VERY different, as the 04 on street tires is sliding around (tho the NT-05s are very impressive on track for a "street" tire), but the modern car is physically VERY easy to drive quickly. The 63 is manual everything and very loud, so it is not a sophisticated driving experience, but MUCH more physical effort is required for a much more visceral experience.
Oh, of course the 63 sounds MUCH better

Awesome! Any more pictures/video? It looks like the '63 has more camber? Could be the picture angle.

I would have thought that you would want in car video so you could go back and watch it and learn more.
Yes a jelous emotion icon would be nice right now.

I really don't know which is more impressive... that the C5Z can hang with the legend or that the almost 5 decade old C2Z can hang with one of today's best.

Very cool pictures! Im reminded of the movie cars. The '63 could be "Doc" and the '04 is Lightning McQueen. I can see the '63 giving the '04 driving tips in the pits.

Absolutely awesome to see someone putting a '63 Z06 through the paces on a track. Even more incredible that it can hold its own against a C5 Z06.
