Default which spare/backup parts do you bring to the track?

I have seen many people having to leave after their first few laps with a mechanical that could have been easily fixed with a right part (and had it happen myself)
Likewise, I have seen folks MacGyver their cars when all hope seemed to have been lost and keep on turning hot laps.

I have started bringing a few parts with me in hopes of avoiding a sad fate or at least being able to limp the car home (i do not trailer the car).

The trick is figuring out what is a reasonable set of parts for a C5/C6 corvette. At the risk of letting the world know what an obessively paranoid person I am, here's what I pack now. What about you?
  • Spare brake rotors - front AND back, spare hats and fasteners for 2-piece ones
  • Brake pads. At least one extra set
  • Replacement brake line and fittings.
  • Replacement bleeder screws
  • Extra lug nuts
  • Parts to block off oil/trans/diff coolers
  • oil, trans, diff fluids and a fluid pump
  • brake and clutch fluid, large syringe to remove fluids through the reservoir if needed, bleed hose
  • spare guide pin bolts for OEM calipers
  • various locktites and hydraulic seal/high temp one
  • thinking about a spare accessory belt, after finding one hanging off only 2 "ridges" after a track day
  • duct tape and zip ties

Paranoid - hardly ! Spares are a part of any track event, especially with the entry and travel costs involved. Your list is fairly comprehensive. Depending on the age and milage of the car, you might want to consider bringing along a spare front and rear hub. I have seen several fail in the past three years.

Yeah rotors for sure. I can attest to Jason having stacks of them in his trailer. I don't drive as hard or fast as Jason (not even close) but I still crack my rotors. And that's on street tires.

Right now I am DE only and I bring:

Rotors
Pads
Brake fluid (and Motive pressure bleeder)
Belt
Engine oil

I check my rotors for cracking after every session.

I will add 2 items that came in handy; coat hanger and baling wire.
We used the coat hanger when the tailpipes started dragging after a weld on an exhaust hanger broke and used the baling wire and duct tape to fix a broken gas pedal on another occasion.

man, at this point, you may just as well bring a second car for parts!
why control arms? For the ball joints or do the actual arms break/bend from stress?

Control arms because if someone got into me or I got into a off track situation and tagged a wall.

Never seen one bend or break from normal use! I just bring everything and anything cause i'm a PACK RATT.

Track Car:

Spare:

Set and match haha

Ok in all seriousness I bring:

rotors
Pads
Jacks/stands
wheels (including street set ups incase the tow rig brakes or all the slicks cord...or rain)
wheel studs
header bolts
random bolts/washers
hockey pucks
duct tape...black duct tape too
wire+electrical tape

In addition for the C4:
Power brake booster
2X Alternators (lifetime warranties...one from NAPA one from O'Reilly)
2X starters (lifetime warranties...one from NAPA one from O'Reilly)
Wheel bearings
Plug wires

I am still working on stocking up on my C5 parts since I have only done 1 track day with that car. That cars list will include a stock transmission though.

Really the whole front of the trailer we try to fit as many parts as we possibly can just incase... if one car breaks where we can't run it anymore though and we are at our home track (brainerd) chances are I will have my C4/C5 there so I will just stick to the one car... that hasn't happened yet though

since I made the original post, I have found (the hard way, as usual) that a spare wheel bearing is a great thing to add to the list. kept seeing people post about it and never thought it would happen to me in the middle of a track trip 200+ miles away from home. sigh.

I think there's a lot of "overkill" here. I bring beer, scotch, a big hammer, a bigger hammer, duct tape, zip ties, a two screw drivers and a pair of vice grips. If I can't fix it with the tools I mentioned, I have a beer with a scotch chaser!!!

Most of the suggestions on here are pretty good. I've personally NEEDED spare:
  • Rotors
  • Brake Pads
  • Bleeder Screws (snapped off one of the 2-piece Wilwood bleeders)
  • Brake Lines (had a rear braided stainless line separate at the caliper fitting)
  • Wheel Bearing (had a front-right go bad)

So I carry all of the above, along w/ the usual host of fluids (and necessary pumps) and tools.

But, like the post I quoted, at some point I've realized that scrambling to get it together for one more session might not be worth it. I've broken on the 1st or 2nd session of a day, and spent the next few hours scrambling for parts, tools and wrenching away (luckily I've always had good friends and friendly co-trackers to help out) to make the last session of the day.

At that point I'm mentally and physically exhausted, and my mind is still on the "fix." I'd probably be better of just calling it a day.

Of course, up until now I've been driving the car to the track (with all the spares in the tool box on my tow-behind tire trailer) so fixing the car is not an option, but a necessity. I'm looking forward to trailering the car.

I have noticed that the more events I do, the less I take with me. Why? Because getting a full run weekend is not as important as it used to be. I'd rather not work on the car at the track anymore, I did that enough with my Cobra and it ruined my appetite for it, LOL.

My spares list:

- full set of front and rear rotors
- full set of brake pads, used but not totally used up
- assortment of fluids
- rollbar padding for the schmuck that didn't bring any
- spare helmet for guests that arrive wanting a ride-along
- typical tools including zip ties, electrical tape, and various clamps

There are also several of us out of our normal crowd that run the same cars. So there is less need to bring everything when everyone brings something.

:One of the most important things you can use: Spare Keys! "Cause, when you need 'em, you really need 'em!

One for the car, one for the tow vehicle and one for the trailer.

I locked myself out of my truck at Road Atlanta on a Saturday night last month, and that really caused a scramble, and frayed some tempers.

If it's your track car you're locked out of, imagine not being able to get into it or starting it? That'll ruin your weekend.

Thanks for the reminder on the drill and radiator, Wally, buddy, old friend of mine! That was a helluva a day!

BTW, bring a first aid kit! You might not need it, but guaranteed someone will during the weekend. I'm evidence of that!

The spare serpentine belt is a must have item in that list.

Thanks fo ryour list, by the way..
