Default Large Low Oil Pressure Warning Light.....

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Has anyone wired up a large "low oil pressure" light somewhere on the dash?

I've seen other cars that have these big lights and it gets your attention real quick. On our cars there's little or no warning, especially if you're in the middle of track traffic.

Any info????

Seems like it'd be a pretty easy addition.

I ran one once but it was on so often I could not stand it, to distracting. I put the sensor in an extra port on my oil cooler adapter block on the engine.

There was a ice racing car with 4 brake lights across the dash. Oil, water, volts and fuel pressure.

The car builder had some issues with driver's in the past

I mounted this obround style in my old C4, off the shelf of a local speed shop. Had it wired to an adjustable pressure switch like this one

I can post some pictures this weekend, but after blowing up an engine to low oil pressue, a light was a must.

We wired one smack dab in front of the driver's face. It's an adjustable moroso unit, right now set at 15 lbs.

Great, I'd like to see it.

Mike, could you set your light at different settings or was it locked into just one setting?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Mine was set at 30lb but i think you could get different sending units for it. I just keep it up on the DIC now and check it when I have a chance.

also, it's connected to the port on the back of the intake manifold, the same one as the sender and the switch.

I used a standard taillight socket (just the socket, that I found at NAPA or AutoZone) and stuck in an LED 1057 brake light bulb, and zip tied the thing coming out of the defrost vent up on the dash, right under the windshield. The wires go out to the engine compartment to a 30 lb, normally closed pressure switch mounted on a little oil pressure rail. There has to be 30lb pressure or more to open the contacts and turn off the light.

The rail is an aluminum piece that I tapped for the light sender, the guage sender and the fuel pump cut off switch. The rail is fed from the pressure port on the back top of the engine on my cast iron small block.

I get a little blink every once in a while on hot days, on big fast sweepers during AutoX'ing.

Also have a 3 qt Accusump.

All of my race cars had big oil pressure warning lights in them. Saved the motor in my vintage race 240Z at Willow Springs one day when the oil pump shaft broke entering turn 8. Light went on, engine went off, coasted into the pits. No way I was looking at a regular oil pressure gauge entering turn 8, ever. One quick trip to Autozone, and the car was right back on the track. Very cheap insurance. Mine looked like the pics in previous replies, but I put it right on the top of the dash in my line of sight.

Default oil light

I put this on GS023. Saved my motor at GS Speedway last month when the distributor gear stripped out.

Used double sided tape to mount light to steering column.

Highly recommended.

Shrek,

Wouldn't happen to have a list of parts for the steering wheel change would you?

Thanks
