Default tire trailer insurance?

I've been dragging a tire trailer for a couple years now without insurance. Since I had my guy on the phone anyway I started asking about insuring a 'utility trailer'. He got very interested in what 'utility' I might want to trailer and what vehicle I'd be using. I ended up stopping the conversation and got the impression he might have made some sort of note on my policy about me asking, or maybe I'm being paranoid.

Anyway, do you guys insure your tire trailer, and what did you tell the insurance company? Is a trailer automatically covered if you claim you 'just got it'? Like the grace period for a new car?

Thanks!!

I think he was just trying to make a sale....... My insurance agent is local, and they know I haul all sorts of crap around, and have never suggested or pushed extra coverage on me. We looked into trailer/cargo insurance with our business once, and it was cost prohibitive. I guess I've always assumed your car liability insurance would cover anything strapped to your trailer, and the contents generally aren't that expensive.

I'm with David on this. I never had a trailer policy for my 4 x 6
I expect my car insurance and my umbrella policy to cover me.

Since the chances of my trailer ruining someone's day without any involvement from the towing car are minimal, I am hoping that liability exposure does not warrant insurance.

State Farm in NH told me that once you hook the trailer to the tow vehicle, the tow vehicle policy covers everything as one unit. When your trailer is disconnected from your tow vehicle and parked on your residence, the homeowners insurance will cover it.

I guess you could make up a scenario where your trailer rolls on it's own in the paddock and runs into someone's Enzo...

That's when you need a back-dated bill of sale listing anyone who was faster than you that weekend! Lol

Thanks guys... I feel better now! I can just imagine that conversation though....

<him> A _utility_ trailer huh? What is it you haul around?
<me> umm, just some extra wheels and stuff.
<him> extra wheels???? why what type of wheels would those be?
<me> oh, they are just some stock wheels I like to have with me, you know.
<him> no, I really don't. Are these wheels for your Nissan Murano that you pull your boat with?
<me> yea! lets go with that!
<him> you little pr**k! I bet you put a trailer hitch on the G-D corvette we hate to insure didn't you! And now you carry race tires around, how stupid do you think I am? You don't think I know what you're doing?
... DENIED ... Policy Cancelled ... You Loose!

This is the ISO language that most auto polices use for coverage
