Default Well thats your problem right there.

So that happened on the start of todays race. Shifting from 2-3, heard a WHA-BAMMM, and pulled off. The car won't drive under power, but will roll freely.

Sooo, this seems like the perfect time to do some upgrading. I'm taking suggestions.

Diff: stocker? I don't want a quaiffe or anything like that. Maybe a C6 case? I hear those are stronger

Tranny: Mines been acting like the synchros are about to go for a while now. So I figure I might as well take care of it while I'm in there. The options are:
- Rebuild stocker
- MN6 instead of the MN12
- Spend some dough and get a close ratio box. Maybe zr1 gears?

Waly... My car has ate two diffs. We remeded the problem by upgrading to poly bushings in the control arms...

Knock on wood.. I haven't had the problem since and I am using stock
Z06 diff units.

Yeah...the picture above looks real familiar

Then there is my car which has never broken one and I am using the same stock OEM rear Z06 diff/gear/housing (knock on wood)....but my car has been a myth lately

Wally ...at least you are out running yours ..

I'm with RAFTRACE, in many many years of standing starts, I never broke one. However, some drivers broke them regularly. I think it has a lot to do with driving style and luck!

The c6 Diff housing are different, don't know how hard it is to retrofit. The subframe mounts completely different.

If you never (or rarely) use 5th, I get an MN6. If you really need 5th, you might want to consider a close-ratio box, but otherwise the MN6 is great.

The weird thing is, it wasnt a standing start! It was rolling and I took off in 2nd. The shift to third did it. I'm betting it was nursing some kind of hairline fracture and that kick was just the last straw.

As it stands now, I don't use 5th at all. I'd like a box/rear end combo that lets me use 3-5, and 2 in oak tree. Anyone know if its possible to get an MN6 1-4 w/ the MN12 5th gear?

Ahh, the smell of burnt gear oil in the morning!

I blew mine and just got a stock z06 unit from a junkyard. Works great. If you got a big budget get two and have a spare. Got mine for $550 shipped.

Ah ha! I see that combo on the rockland standard website. If its significantly cheaper than the zr1 ratios, then that might be the way to go. That gearset and a 3.90 or a 4.10 adds up to some really nice gear spacing.

those are the ZR1 ratios. The tranzilla seems like some serious overkill for what I need. Also I googled the price....
