Default What does a car, trailer and tow vehicle weigh?

I was curious what my total weight was, so on the way back from Hallett I found out! So if anyone is interested here is what I got:

I have a Pace 24', C5Z06 and '09 F150 Super Crew. two spare track tires, tools, gear etc etc etc.

Put it on the CAT scales Sunday. 15,280

That does not include beer, which pushes it up a bit more.

YMMV

15k? Crap, does that put us into the commercial DOT category?

My Sierra Crew Cab Duramax pulling a 24' Pace with tandem 5k axles, fully loaded with C5Z, 8 extra wheels and tires, liquorcycle, extra rotors and other parts, coolers, tool boxes, 20 gallons of extra fuel, 2 spare tires, jacks, kitty litter, fire extinguishers and misc other stuff pushes my weight to 18,000+.

I bought a 17,000# tag, so I could still get busted for the additional 1,000. That's a risk I'll take, I guess.

O man is not the issue. NC State trooper DOT enforcement can be nasty for boat trailers, RVs and car haulers.

the look at wt, width and length.

24' should not an issue, but 30' and long goose necks are. ( total 65' length)

From the link above

Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds (11,793 kg), or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds (4536 kg) GVWR.

A Class B commercial driver's license is needed to operate a Class B truck in the United States.

I got stopped by a NC trooper one time for not having a weighted tag. I got lucky and he got called for something more important. I now have a 11,000 pound tag. Ridgeline with open 18' Feather-lite trailer, C5Z, tires and tools and what have you 10,100.

At least we have "weighted" tags now....used to have to get a commercial tag, and technically if you had a commercial tag, you needed a CDL (which I have anyway).

On similar note, NC require trailers to have safety inspections annually, although I bet over 99% of trailers never do it. I'm not sure if this has changed with the recent "stickerless" inspections though!

That's the reason I bought a permanent tag for my trailer so that the annual renewal of a license plate wouldn't get blocked by not having an inspection.

never had trailer inspected nor the lic blocked each year for renewal.

I inspect my trailer a few times a year, and before each haul.

With that new computer system, they're blocking license renewals on cars/trucks for not having inspections.

I was afraid that next they'd take it the trailer level.

you're already a pro at standing on the middle pedal and not knowing if you're gonna make it
