Default sidewall cracks?

Anyone ever seen this before?

You can see all the way to the metal cords.

I've seen cracks like that on tires that spent too much time in the cold; this is why a lot of the tire manufacturers have minimum temperatures for their race tires. I've never seen cracks that bad from the sun, but I guess it's possible, too.

I have seen it on Goodyear slicks when the rubber ages.

From what I've been told by guys who have had that happen to their tires is that is caused by letting the tires get below freezing.

You may not have let them freeze, but UPS or other delivery services might have left them out.

Update:

That is a Pirelli slick.

From the vendor (who showed the photo to Pirelli guys), this is what happens sometimes when tires are mounted using too much air pressure.

They are going to replace the tire.

I'll let everyone know when the tire arrives, their customer service has been great so far.

Thanks again to GT Racing Tires for their great customer service.
