Default ***Cool video of Mike Woods ripping up the track***

Congrats Mike on the success of your car and we are very happy to see you enjoying/causing havoc on the road course.

Mike’s car has set many records including some very fast times. The car has ran a 116.5 at Summit point (set in 2009) TTU class.
2 first place finishes at Summit and VIR in his TTU class.

The video is of Mike at VIR at an invite only event.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caygfkeHdME

Mike has the following modifications:

Cartek built 427
Cartek ported 5X heads
Cartek custom 4X camshaft
Cartek ported throttle body and FAST intake
Cartek custom dry sump
RPS twin disk carbon light
Cartek custom dyno tuning

Enjoy the video guys

Great drive.

What the H*ll is that awful noise that can be heard when he is driving at slow speeds?

I'm curious if you have any (detailed) pics of how you setup the dry sump in his C5? I have a LS7 based 427 and an ARE dry sump (using a non-LS7 crank as to do the "real" dry sump) in my C5 and am just looking for how others accomplished the same thing. Mostly curious about if/how you vented the crankcase back into the oil can, then the oil can to the vent can.

BTW Pumba, that noise sounds like trans and diff cooler pumps to me (sounds a lot like mine).

Thanks,
TJ

You need to upgrade his camera to a 427 something.
WTF was that on the track in turn 2?

Which sound?
-Transmission and diff cooler pump whine,
or
-the pop-n-gurgle of unburnt fuel through the exhaust,
or
-track turds being picked up by the tires and flung into the wheel wheels
or
- all three

all common sounds on track / race cars

Tom, we drive to the 'sound' of the same beat. At speed my pump noise is undetectable but in the paddock it is overwhelming.

Absolutely. the sound one needs to understand or hear, is something "DIFFERENT" If is sounds DIFFERENT, we have a problem.

Even with ear plugs, belacava and helmet.

Aaron

Thanks everyone and Aaron sorry about your Vette.

So let me start with. I never tape myself at the track. But my neighbor C6 HPDE driver talked me into it. The real video is much, much better. I think CARTEK compressed the file and lost resolution. The UTCC this year it was over 100+ degrees and alot of fast cars and drivers. Phil Curran, Christian Clay owner of Bimmerworld, thats his silver BMW R&D I was chasing, Dave Farmer in a Yellow C6 Z06, Gil in a Fast C6Z06 "stock" and many others. I have only run VIR 3 times and everytime I go I get it wrong. Busted front A arm and bearing on the uphill esses. Going up the esses you either get right or get it wrong, rain, and the UTCC. Wally said he will show me the line one day. I was running a hurt motor because I let a local speed shop NO...NOT.. CARTEK change my 921 COMP Cam springs and valve stem seal. The valve stem seals were too big and were smashed by the inner spring a were sent into the main bearings. You can see the oil temp in the up around 295 after that the oil pressue started drop. The vette will be heading back to CARTEK to get rebuilt over the winter and chassis need to loose some weight. Oh and the noise at pit out, are the DRM diff and trans coolers. They have been in the vette since 2003 and have never failed, nor have DRMs Coilovers.
