Default Carbotech Pads vs. cheap pads

I did a track event a few weeks ago and it had incredible stopping power.

Did you change rotors when you changed pads? Some pads really hate touching rotors that other pads have been on...

Nope, same old rotors. New rotors are next on the list.

YES. Carbotech race pads could be used for normal driving.

Carbos are that much better even for cruising/daily driving. There are some really crappy street pads out there--never cheap out on brakes.

On my 92 I just leave the carbotech pads on it.
I ran the same 10/8 combo for street/track duty. With the big C4 brakes (j55) they lasted about 7 two day events and about 3k street miles. Right now I'm on 12/10 and since I'm running time trials (3 - 4 laps and done, 3 - 4 times per day) They have lasted me the entire season (12+ events).
I'll be prepping the car the next couple weekends for my final three events and will see if I have enough pad left for them.

There are two reasons those auto store pads are not working:
The pad material is not compatible with the layer of carbotech material on the rotors.
The pad material is not that good, I had a second set of rotors and would change pads and rotors for the drive home. HATED it, gave up and just left the track pads on.

Sounds like really low torque pad material, that junk shouldn't be sold.

I flip back and forth between DT70 or XP12 & my OEM street pads on the same rotors. I don't notice a big drop in brake performance on the street, but then again I don't use them that hard. The OEM pads are definitely not track worthy.

Just make sure you have a set of headphones on to drown out the squeal.

I hate driving my Z on the road. It's so fugging noisy.

Solution: My second C6 should be here in the next week or two.

Now that I've been driving with these cheap pads for about a week, they don't seem as bad as I initially thought. Don't get me wrong, with these maxi pads on, she still stops like a drunk horse in the mud, but I think the initial shock going from Carbotech's to discount store pads just caught me by surprise. Really makes me appreciate a good set of pads as I was previously convinced that $400 worth of brake pads was a just a well played marketing scheme.

I DD 10s/8s. The comment about pad compatibility is probably your issue. I'd leave the CTs on - DD use isn't that demanding and you'll never have a properly bedded setup switching back and forth.

If it were me, I'd turn the rotors to start fresh...
