Default OFF Topic, but maybe some one can help...

We have a very large 300 ?? year old oak tree that did not anwer the bell this spring on our property...

Its a grand old girl, but its time for her to come down.

Is this tree worth anything and does anyone know any regional tree services that can handle the removal?

About 5 or 6 feet around at the base...

let me know...jfaphoenix32@aol.com

should be able to sell the oak they do it on Long Island. Post a picture of it. Value will depend on type of oak it is and condition. Any rot on the trunk? It probably is inside. Google selling oak tree and things come up. Call a couple of tree surgeons.

I would look up several services in your area and get estimates from them. Not sure about the value of Oak nowadays. I have a huge Ash tree in my front yard that was supposed to be valuable but when I talked to some people they said the price for Ash had dropped significantly over the last few years. The thing is around a 100 ft tall and has rained large limbs down on my driveway for the last 30 years.

Most if not all saw mills cannot handle a log anywhere near that size. Plus a tree that old usually has some metal in it from nails or other metal over the years. Once a saw mill sees the blue mark in the rings of the trees they usually won't touch it.

I agree check with some local tree companies.

Try Amish cabinet makers? They may have their own sawmill.

Joe,
We lost a tree similar to that earlier this spring. It was on a hillside in one of our pastures and the ground was so wet from all the rain that it fell over. We had a logging company come out and look at it because they were going to buy the log. It turned out that the very center had rotted out. Therefore they couldn't use it and it is now firewood! Good Luck....

No commercial mill will touch it. Too big. Look for specialty woodworkers - unlikely they will pay a lot but it cheaper then paying to remove it.
