Default Think we could get 40 ST2 cars at Mid Ohio for Nationals?

Dave Balingit says that will be the magic number to get our own run group, that would be and then maybe we would get some decent coverage

Signed up or to actually show up? This year there were 22 registered and 15 1/2 (sorry Oli) actually took the green flag. If all of the west coast guys showed up we could get close to that. But my guess is that we will only see a handful of west coast guys show up at Mid-O, heck Geff was the only guy east of the Mississippi to show up in Utah this year.
I also think that the only way for us to get our own run group is if there were 50 cars signed up. But numbers have a way of growing when car counts are as good as they are in ST2, with all of the cars being built I would think that it's a possibility. Also if ST2 get's it's own run group then some of the PTA guys could super size and run in both.

Way too early to start counting, it's a long year and lots can happen.
We can start this list in July or August when it mean something.

You might get 40 STx/SU cars. I don't see 40 ST2 cars, though. But hey, dare to dream.

you make it sound as if you're not even going to try, we all know how that works

so you're going to race this weekend?
Yea, but I'm running on old tires, and really just want to tes out a new setup..but I'm going to enter in the ST2 race class to help get more car counts
ST2 class ehh? Just testing waters or you going to give em hell?
Naww, just testing waters really, I'm just going to be a back marker

2 weeks later..

so how did the weekend go?
well, the car was a handful on saturday, I think I passed like 6 people because of a bad qualifying
oh? that sucks..what happened sunday?
Ehh, nothing too big really, threw down a 4th place qualifying out of 40 cars
NICE!! Where'd you finish?
Oh, I won
so just testing the waters huh?
well, I mean, i saw the times they were running and i knew i could do it too even though i had old tires and my brake pads were pretty worn, and my weight was a bit heavy...

yea, field filler my ***!

I hope to play in PTA and ST2 next year. The car is being built to PTA rules but I will go in ST2 if there is no one to run with in PTA

if a PTA car showed up and won ST2, it would leave in 4 dozen boxes

no PTA car would ever hang up front in ST2. nerf sword in an Abrams tank battle

if you look up competitive I think it would be a personality description of drivinhard....

With 40 cars it would be a blast to race though.

Our only possible advantage, top speed, would not be nearly enough on the short straights of MidO.

I wouldn't exactly say that Mark races are races and anything can happen, attrition for example. Look at the T1 race this year, yeah Buttermore and Tucker ran away from the field but if something happened to them who knows.

Plus Mid-O is a tough place to pass. Anything can happen, I think the front running PTA cars can have some good mid-pack ST2 racing and with some attrition who knows?

So I guess it all depends on whos swinging the sword and who's driving the Abrams.

FYI during the 2008 National Championship race at Mid Ohio the fastest ST2 lap was a 1:33.6 and the winners fastest lap was a 1:34.3.

TTA was won with a 1:33.6 in 2008 and in 2007 the winning TTA corvette weighting 3380 making 356 WRHP ran a 1:33.8 on 275 hankooks and that was to the old rules a PTA/TTA car built to the new rules should easily run a low 1:32 so I'm not really seeing how a PTA car couldn't win if not hang up front not to mention you could run wider tires.
