Is anyone familiar with the Corvette tent/corral at Laguna Seca? I'm looking to go this year for my first time. I live down in Houston and would always go to the Corvette Corral at COTA when IMSA was there and I went last year to Road Atlanta. However on Laguna Seca's website they do not list ticket options for the Corvette Corral hospitality tent. Just Corral parking. Since I'd be flying in and driving a rental I wouldn't be looking to park in the Corral but would like to have access to the Corvette hospitality tent like at COTA and Road Atlanta. I also called Laguna Seca ticket sales office and they said they only know of the parking corral and not where you get tickets for the hospitality tent.

For whatever reasons, it always takes 4-5 days after a race for the IMSA website to be updated, so VIR results aren't there yet. However, it's easy to keep track yourself if you know the order of finish.
For the driver/car standings, add 35 pts. for 1st, 32 for 2nd, 30, for 3rd, 28 for 4th, 26 for 5th and so on.
For the manufacturer standings, add the same numbers for the best finishing car. For example, at VIR Chevrolet got 32 pts. and Ford got 28 pts. for their highest finishing cars. The results of the lower finishing car does not count in calculating manufacturer points.
Ford is in the lead for manufacturer's title by 10 points, and has it essentially sewn up. A C7R will essentially have to win both remaining races, with both Fords finishing off the podium, which is not likely.
The #3 C7R is in the lead by 4 points for the driver/team title. Even though they've not won a race this year, they almost always been on the podium. The points system emphasizes consistency over wins.

One of the necessary evils if you want to have multiple manufacturers in a non-spec environment.
Have a good one,

Both are pretty insightful.
Certainly they don't have the fastest car, but it is bulletproof...and they have a secret weapon: Antonio Garcia.
Don't forget, that speed is all due to BoP. None of the cars are running open, AFAIK. So, what you see today has no bearing on what future races (or years) hold. Everyone is talking about the C7Rs being "long in the tooth" and "the oldest design on the circuit." So what? BoP determines how fast or "good" a given chassis is.

OTOH, IMSA offers some of the most exciting racing around.
As much as I love F1, racing is never as close as it is in the Weathertech series (unfortunately).

Laguna BoP is out.
No GTLM changes.
In P, LMP2 cars given 10kg more weight, and the Mazda, 10kg less.
More boost for the GTD Ferrari.

CORVETTE RACING AT LAGUNA SECA: Championship Fight Heads West and By the Numbers
Press Release:
CORVETTE RACING AT LAGUNA SECA: Championship Fight Heads West
Program in contention for third straight IMSA GTLM title with two races to
go
Garcia, Magnussen arrive in California with Driver Championship lead
All four Corvette Racing drivers with multiple Laguna Seca victories
Chevrolet still in race for GTLM Manufacturer’s title
One of three tracks to play host to Corvette Racing in each of its previous
19 seasons
DETROIT (Sept. 4, 2018) – Corvette Racing begins its final push this weekend
to what it hopes is another title-winning campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech
SportsCar Championship. The defending GT Le Mans (GTLM) championship-winning
program heads west to the Monterey Peninsula and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna
Seca for Sunday’s America’s Tire 250.
It’s the 10th of 11 IMSA events for Corvette Racing, which for the first
time this year enters a race leading the Driver and Team championships.
Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen head the Driver standings in the No. 3
Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, with the No. 3 crew first in Team
points. Garcia, Magnussen and the No. 3 Corvette team are the defending GTLM
champions.
Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Mobil
1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R are fourth in the Driver Championship and have the
team’s lone victory of the year. In the Manufacturer standings, Chevrolet
stands second and 12 points out of the lead.
Corvette Racing will close its season at two tracks where it boasts
tremendous success – Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta. The former has witnessed
seven victories for Corvette Racing since 2004 and is one of three tracks at
which the team has competed in each of its previous 19 seasons.
Garcia and Magnussen are on a run of six consecutive podium finishes dating
back to Mid-Ohio in early May. They were runners-up at Watkins Glen,
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Lime Rock Park and VIR; they placed third at
Mid-Ohio and Road America. The duo is eager for their first victory of the
season, and Monterey would be an appropriate spot. They scored back-to-back
wins in 2013 and 2014.
Before those consecutive victories, Gavin and Milner won together at Laguna
Seca in 2012. In fact, Gavin and Magnussen are tied for second for most
victories at Laguna Seca with four each.
The America’s Tire 250 is set for 2:05 p.m. PT on Sunday with live
television coverage on FOX Sports 1. Streaming in-car footage along with
live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is
available on IMSA.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Laguna Seca
is always a nice race to go to. Jan and I have been fortunate to win a few
times there. Let’s see if this year is the same. We didn’t win last year but
did pretty much lock up the championship. It’s a lot tighter this year. A
good result for us would make things easier at Petit Le Mans. For us
Europeans, we feel a little bit closer to home out there. We always like it,
and the Monterey area is always very nice. We always have a good crowd and a
great Corvette Corral there. For sure we know we have a lot of supporters
there.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “I’ve been
fortunate to race at Laguna Seca many times. It’s always a good trip and a
good event. It can be a very tough track to read with the fluctuation in
temperatures and amount of sand that comes on the surface. But it’s like
many other circuits in our championship where you are punished if you make a
mistake. Antonio and I continue to be on a great run of races since Mid-Ohio
but we aren’t satisfied with podiums. We can’t win this championship without
winning a race as well. That continues to be our goal.”
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “This is a
fantastic race track and one we always enjoy going to each year. It has a
great series of corners – a tight and twisty track but a great challenge. We
at Corvette Racing has had a lot of success there as a program and one we
always look forward to this race on the calendar because of the event and
the Monterey area. This is the business end of the season. Championship
points are critical so all the teams will look to strategize and look to do
what we can to do to get the best possible result for the championship. We
always go there to win, so this will be a vital part of how the championship
plays out.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “Our schedule
is full of classic circuits, and Laguna Seca certainly qualifies. It’s a
great track and one of the best areas for sports car racing anywhere in the
country. For a couple of reasons, the track can be pretty tricky when it
comes to finding grip. That makes the practice sessions important to make
sure we understand what makes the car work under braking and power-down on
corner exit. The team that can do that quickest stands to have a big
advantage come the race. Oliver and I have been quick the last few events,
but we need to put it all together in the race.”
DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “As a steamy summer draws to a
close, there is no place better to race than the Monterey Peninsula and
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It’s the perfect track for a race with a
lot at stake in the GTLM championship. We have a great history here - seven
wins in 19 appearances. While we may not have the fastest car, we’ve shown
throughout the last couple of years that our vehicle engineering, our
on-track strategic decisions and our driver lineup is more than capable
overcoming most challenges we have faced. It’s a big reason why we have
Antonio and Jan leading the Driver’s Championship with two races left and
Oliver and Tommy always running toward the front. We hope that continues in
Monterey.”

Le Mans Master
let's do this.
#1574
Right now the standings for GTLM Manufacturers is:
Ford --- 295 pts.
Chevrolet --- 283 pts.
The #3 car of Garcia/Mags is currently in 1st place in the standings.
We need the #4 to come thru the rest of the season or Ford will take home the crown.

Melting Slicks
For the manufacturers title, they take the top car from each manufacturer and throw out the rest. So, the #4 will have no bearing on the manufacturer title if it finishes behind the #3. The only way for Corvette to win the manufacturer title outright is if they win the last 2 races, and the highest Ford finishes behind at least one BMW and Porsche in both races. They can tie if the Ford finishes ahead of one of the others in one of the two races left.

If ALL that counts is "the top car from each manufacturer" and the #3 is actually leading in points right now...
#1577
Melting Slicks
For example, if we take the VIR order of finish and remove the second entries for each, Ford and Porsche get bumped up one, and the order of finish (and points) look like:
1. BMW
2 Corvette
4.
7. Ford
8 Porsche

OK, thanx, I got it now.

Press Release:
CORVETTE RACING AT LAGUNA SECA: Pole Position for Gavin, No. 4 Corvette
Magnussen qualifies third in GTLM championship-leading C7.R
MONTEREY, California (Sept. 8, 2018) – Oliver Gavin captured pole position Saturday for the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category ahead of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s America’s Tire 250 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It was the first pole position at the circuit for Gavin, who will start just ahead of teammate Jan Magnussen on the GTLM grid.
Gavin set a best lap of 1:22.700 (97.421 mph) in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R for his 22nd career pole position in IMSA competition. He and Tommy Milner are fourth in the GTLM Driver Championship standings with two events to go, and they won in class together in 2012 at Monterey.
As a program, Corvette Racing has won seven times at Laguna Seca in 19 previous appearances. Sunday’s race will be its 20th start at the 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit near the Monterey Peninsula.
Magnussen, in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, qualified third in the GTLM Championship-leading entry he shares with Antonio Garcia. The defending GTLM co-champion set a best lap of 1:22.806 (97.297 mph) to slot in 0.106 seconds behind Gavin.
Magnussen and Garcia lead the GTLM Driver Championship by four points, and they won together in Monterey in 2013 and 2014. The No. 3 Corvette has finished on the podium in six consecutive races dating back to Mid-Ohio in May.
The America’s Tire 250 is set for 2:05 p.m. PT on Sunday with live television coverage on FOX Sports 1. Streaming in-car footage along with live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.
OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “It’s always great to get pole position here at Laguna Seca. Thanks to everyone at Corvette Racing and the crew. It takes a massive effort from everyone on the team to get back to P1. I’m thrilled, but this is only a small step in trying to achieve what we want to achieve tomorrow, and that’s a victory. Once the green flag drops tomorrow, this is all kind of forgotten. We have a very good race car; obviously it fell in nicely for qualifying. The Corvette C7.R has been strong all year. We’ve had an amazing team, great strategy and pit stops. We just need to execute tomorrow. The competition is at an all-time high in GTLM, and to be able to beat those guys is pretty satisfying. But the real work is ahead for tomorrow.
“It’s nice to have this moment for the guys on our team. It gives everyone a nice little fill-up going into the race tomorrow. We’ll be pushing like crazy at the start and we’ll work hard tonight to make sure we have everything covered and we’re fully prepared for the race.”
JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – QUALIFIED THIRD IN GTLM: “It was a good qualifying day for both cars and a great job for the No. 4 Corvette to get pole. It is very close at the front and a great way to start the race. I was half-expecting for it to be a lot worse, but I think both our cars hit the peak of the tire and got the best out of it. Let’s see if we can have a clean start and do what we need to do in the championship.
“With it being this close, there’s no controlling anything in the race. It’s about going and not making mistakes… running a good race and to the plan we set out to do. Everything you do matters: when you pit, how you conduct your pit stops… I’m not worried about that, though. That has always been one of our strongest points as a team.”
