Default No Corvettes in Rolex 24 at Daytona

I haven't been a huge fan of the Rolex Grand-Am series ... but last year with Lou running his Vette in the series, I tuned in for a few of the races.

I just went to the 24 Hours of Daytona site, and looked at the Car/Driver line up ... NOT ONE TEAM RUNNING A CORVETTE!

Seems like most teams are running Maxda's / Por-Shaaa's and Camaro's ... what the heck is going on????

Lou or Louis, chime in and let us know whats happening!

it appears that GMs push in Grand Am is the Camaro

There should be a corvette or two in races after the 24 hour.

th costs to race in Daytona are almost out of reach for smaller privateer teams

Too bad the costs are too high ... it's the premiere race of their series ... I would want to be there, no matter what, if I was a team sponsor!

Yes and NO

Corvette is in the American LeMans Series and LeMans 24 hour which is run by the ACO

Grand Am is a different sanctioning body

GM has the Chevy LS6 engines in the Daytona Prototypes and the Camaro in the GT class

You will see the CHEVROLET banner on windshields of many DP cars.

They are running factory backed Camaros in Grand-Am. Both in Rolex GT, and in Cotinental Challenge GS. Look at the driver line-up in the Rolex GT Camaros- GM factory drivers.

It's all about marketing. Corvette is all about technology and high-level image, which is what the ALMS and LeMans represent.

Grand-Am is a more low-tech series than the ALMS, and GM also wants to market the Camaro as a performance vehicle, so the Rolex GT and Continental Challenge series are the right place to race.

If they support another product other than the Camaro in the same series, they work against themselves and their ultimate goal of having the Camaro win the series championships.

I read the prototype has de-stroked 305CI motor with LS9 cylinder block with direct fuel injection making 530HP. Not sure what's in the camaro.

2001 - when the race was run under ALMS rules and not Grand Am.

By the way, there was at least one Corvette in the GT class. #46. I *think* that it's already out.

I thought the LS6 was history. I don't think they should be able to run an engine that you can't buy.
