C5 vs C6 chassis/suspension differences?

The C7 will be C5.8. Not necessarily a bad thing. Goes to prove just how good Dave McLellan made the C5 design, the basic concepts and package have remained very competitive for years with only minor tweaks compared to major redesigns by competitors. FYI, the C5 was 90% done when Dave left in 92. Early 93 saw the first proof of concept car that was approved for further design and production.
Many of concepts that failed in the C4 (for a variety of reasons, money and corporate politics being BIG ones), rear mounted transmission, stiff frame, easy entry and exit, etc..proved out in the C5. The C4 was so radical from the C3 it took a generation to work out the bugs...

I hope it's C5.8. Things I've read say it's more like the C4 to C5 change, but the prototype photos make it look very similar to the C5/C6 in general layout.
I love the C5/C6 general layout.....continue to improve weight distribution and styling (constantly changing), as well as maybe better aero, but the suspension is among the best around IMO

I like C5.8. I may have been the one that coined the C5.5 moniker. At least that's when Dave Hill stopped talking to me. It's interesting that Corvette used the same basic frame/chassis from 1963 to 1982. Now we have the same basic unit from 1997 to at least 2020.

I take it you haven't been poking around in the C7 forum. Lots of spy photos and videos starting to pop up. Also the Jalopnik artist renderings. The car is most definitely front engine rwd again. Longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, Ferrari 599 styling cues

I think that's a stretch and a bit of a generalization myself. There are differences but the devil is in details. Shorter gearing means more engine braking in a C5Z vs C6Z. C6 is wider and the longer wheelbase of course. Mostly if talking pure balance it's the fact a C6Z has 2.5" per side more rear wheel (5 total) with the same front width. I've got some results that say a C6 isn't dog-****, but do agree the C5Z is basically easier to drive and place for autocross. If I didn't love the LS7 so much and prefer the interior of the C6 I'd be autocrossing a C5Z instead.
