Everett Ogilvie off topic (sorry guys) but pictures of your car in the forum garage are
What does it weigh? What size rubber are you running?

I have friend at SKF and he warned me about using rears on front unless they are the race bearings.
I installed the race bearings and they work great, I also have a friend that races in T1 and went through bearings like popcorn until he installed the race bearings.

I don't know... that's a good question. Internally the same.
Edit: apparently, the fronts are splined, too: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...rear-hubs.html
Also, some info in there from LG regarding SKF HD race hubs...

Melting Slicks
I think the heart of the matter here is that the older GM bearing design (no matter who made it, to that spec) is not appropriate to use a rear on the front. The new SKF RACE/HD hub according to everyone who sells them that I have found so far only has one part number and is apparently appropriate front or rear, regardless of the fact it has splines - it is a different design than the old bearings the service manual is referencing.
John, when Katech scaled my car it weighed 2547 with 2/3 tank of fuel (so 2450 without fuel) before I lightened it up a bit, with 650 HP, Hoosier A6s, 315 front on 18X11, 345 rear on 18X13. It has lots of grip, both mechanical and aero, which is why I could easily get into trouble, so at Road America this summer I need to have plenty of RESPECT!

SKF hub bearing
Could someone cut apart their non-usable skf or timkin standard hub bearing and see if the ball bearings are offset.
Attached should be a picture of what I think is the HD version of the skf hub bearing per the attached article. http://evolution.skf.com/zino.aspx?articleID=15103
Is fig 6 of 9 the model Bar 5049C SKF hub bearing? Is the standard bearing internal design the same as fig 6?
I know the BAR5049C fits 30mm 30 spline hub.
thanks

So... is the moral of the story to simply use the SKF RACE hubs and not have to worry? Especially for us mere mortals running HPDE who can't or don't want to check every nut and bolt after each weekend at the track...

great thread here
my question.........
SKF race bearing......SAME........as OEM ZR1 bearings front/rear???
just to clarify, I would assume post #23 is when a C5 rear hub is used?
the C5 and C6(ZR1) hub are different animals

The ZR1 bearing is the same design as the SKF but with a different spline for the bigger ZR1 axles. Also the ABS ring has a tooth count for the newer Bosch system. So they can not be used on older cars unless you lose the ABS and convert to ZR1 axles.

I purchased my latest pair from Gary Hoffman @ www.hardbarusa.com. He includes a really nice bearing hardware kit that he normally sells for $40 on it's own.

To the best of our knowledge it breaks down like this:
All ZR1 models all got updated bearings to the SKF race bearing design. They are not the same part as the SKF race bearings for 97-08 cars because of the spline and ABS Ring changes. Sometime in either 10 or 11 the C6Z ended up with the ZR1 SKF style bearing, but the 9 and some 10 C6Z use the Bosch ABS ring but didn't get the upgraded bearing from the factory.
97-08 Corvette that needs a wheel bearing? SKF Race Bearings are as bullet proof as you can buy.
ZR1 and 11+ C6Z shouldn't need replacement bearings any time soon. If they do fail pick up an OEM replacement.
09 and some 10 C6Z can't use the SKF Race bearing because of the ring change, and will likely end up needing to run the OEM ZR1 bearing as an upgrade but will need to switch to ZR1 axles to match the new splines.
This is to the best of our knowledge. We do know for a fact that our go to bearing upgrade for 97-08 Corvettes is always the SKF. It's just better.

While eventually I'm sure they will, I have yet to wear out an SKF HD bearing. I have simply replaced my OEM ones as they have failed corner by corner. One of the SKF's has been in for 2 seasons, which one of them was a full season. It probably has 35-40 + TT days, lots of instructor session taxi rides, and 6 races on it. The other 2 about half that time, the last one I just put in a few events ago. So far so good.

How much more is the skf race over the skf non race?
