Racing has *never* been fair, btw. Despite that fact, throughout racing history, the majority of the players have continued to race knowing that they have little or no chance for victories. And to expect that in *professional* racing where lots of money is involved, that the little guys are EVER going to have a fair shot is dreaming on a grand scale.
I doubt Michelin is giving tires away so do we really know what this is costing them?
Many suppliers have left different series before and the series have continued.
If it was not worth Michelin's while they would be gone in a heart beat.
I stopped watching Corvette compete against themselves and lonely privateers they feel are no threat.
Has AMLS always had Michelin as a tire supplier? Is Michelin the only tire on the grid?

As I said, so far we have only heard fropm the victim. What the victim alleges may or may not be all/part/none of the truth.

I doubt very much that what the teams pay covers the actual costs to Michelin.
That's no guarantee that will always happen. That's like saying "I've jumped off the roof twice and both times a passerby has caught me. Let's do it again!"
Absolutely. That's not the real question. The real question is "is it worth it ENOUGH to Michelin to allow themsevles to have their business decisions dictated to by a SMALL racing series?"
Be serious. Even if Michelin had provided LG the same tires that GM got, do you really think you would ever have seen CR thinking that LG was a serious threat? Really?
Again, if there's no one else willling and able to fill in the gap, you are dicked.

I dont see how Corvette Racing has dictated what Michelin is doing especially since BMW, Ferrari, Porsche all run tires provided by Michelin.
LGM was never a real threat to Corvette Racing
Michelin has provided the best sports car tire for at least the past decade. It has been the winning tire manufacture at Le Mans that entire time.

So...has anybody been able to get qualifying on ESPN 3?
I registered, got the window to pop up, it shows only tennis and high school basketball, but if I search I can see a mentoin of the ALMS qualifying starting at 2:55 but I can't click on it to watch it.
Can it be over already?
edit_perhaps that's what the results above are?

works fine for me, but still a hassle. Was on live from 3:00 to around 4:30, and they just got it up for replay via ESPN3 (which I stream to Playon). I couldn't watch it live, so I plan on watching it later tonight.
****there was a lag from when it ended till around 5:00 that you couldnt get the live or replay....it's available now. Quality is about like SD TV, but widescreen.

I said -serious- threat. That's different from occasional threat.
Why did he "have" to? I find that hard to believe. Given that a win was in hand what possible reason would LG have for backing off? If you are referring to this thread (and specifically post #8) then big time:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ld-thread.html
This is, however, 100% beside the point of this thread which was the ALMS media package, how people feel about it, and (IMO) why the fans shouldn't be so hard on them about it.

It won't be available on the ALMS website if you are in the US.

the only reason i am pissed is since it is a good time for my friends and i to get together since we are not all big football fans etc.. and love ALMS racing the most out of any series and we have no options at all, hell if it were pay per view i would be 1st in line even!!

Uh, guys... Enough already. Do you really think that ALMS did this by choice? Do you not think that would have it otherwise?
Unless your racing series generates enough ratings that the broadcaster can sell enough commercials and turn a profit on the exercise, the only way to get on "real" TV is to BUY the time *and* pay for the production of the shows. That adds up to some serious money and clearly ALMS simply can't afford it at this point.
GrandAm has *all* of it's races showing on Speed. AKA "the NASCAR channel." And who owns GrandAm? Gee...
The combination of FOX/SPEED/NASCAR provides GrandAm with a guaranteed TV deal *despite* the fact that no one watches it and no one attends their races. The same kind of deal has applied to the IRL for the past 15 years - ABC wants to keep the Indy 500 in its portfolio but to do so they have had to swallow showing all the other "no one gives a rat's ***" IRL races on ABC or ESPN in order to keep Indy.
ALMS has no underlying support system - they have to go it alone.
So cut ALMS some slack. They are striving to bring REAL sports car racing to us and they deserve whatever support we can give them for that alone.
