Default Just bought a Track Car

As the title says and I'm stoke about getting into some track days. Car is a 2002 Z06. It's got Brembo's, Forgeline wheels, been caged, race seats and harness, fire system and cool suit system installed. It's also got tranny and diff coolers. The engine and suspension are still stock and I'm going to take off the Hoosier R6s and put some standard street tires on it as I'm completely new to this thing and I want to do it right. My first session will be at the end of July, 2 days with Drivers Edge in Texas at Motorsport Ranch where I'll get some proper instruction and learn things the right way.

The one mod I want to make before my track day is to swap out the stock steering wheel with a removable one to make it easier for me to get my fat *** in the car. What do you guys recommend for steering wheels and Hubs? I don't want to buy something to find out I bought crap because I didn't bother asking those with experience.

Was this a T1 car? Congrats on the car, you picked a great platform for reliable fun at the track. Wise choice going with something already caged and prepped for the track.

Heh. Congrats on the purchase, great choice (although it's a huge leap to make that kind of a purchase without having ever tried the track thing). Is the car still road registered? Do you plan to drive it to the track or trailer it?

Enjoy!

I have no idea on the classifications of cars. I know the car was WELL taken care of as all the maintainance on it was done by one of the local shops I take me C6 Z06 to so they know the car very well. I got a screamin deal I just couldn't pass up.

Yeah, I agree it was a gigantic leap to buy this but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the hell out of driving it. My original intention was to use my C6 Z06 as a track/weekend putz around car. But I did a number of upgrades on the inside and now the car is so nice I was starting to get a bit hesitant to take it to a track and have it get beat up. So my plan was to wait a while and buy a used C5 and then do to it what is already seen in the picture. I ran into this deal that was a steal given the car and mods and knowing that it was well taken care of.

Here in the DFW area there is a place called Motor Sport Ranch. It's basically a country club that you join and instead of a golf course, it's a road course. They have garages you can rent. Figure I would do that so the car is kept at the track when I want to use it. At some point I will want to take it to another track and at that point I'll have to look into getting a trailer. I figure a year or so for that move.

Car is not and will no be road registered. Although I still have to do the title transfer and pay the damn sales tax. I forgot about that and that has cut into my funds for other toys.

That cant be a T1 car. There is only one door bar and it is barley a door bar. Probably just someone else's track toy that was not built for a certain class.

It looks cool! Go out and enjoy it!

old school T1 maybe? There was a time (not long ago) in SCCA and NASA that double door bars weren't mandated on the drivers side.

It's been sitting for while, hence the dust. I don't think it was built for anything other than fun on the weekends which, for now, is exactly what I'm using it for.

I'm chomping at the bit to go out and tinker and clean.

You'll have a blast, thats a perfect set up for a track toy. I have the ATI removable hub and the Sparco "Ring" wheel

Do you have the spacer on there so the wheel is closer to you?

Where did you get the ATI Hub? I'm coming up empty on google for that.

Thanks for the link, that's exactly what I needed.

BTW, what's the little readout on the top panel in the center console?
