This is the photo before it was taken off the car in question.
As it turns out, this was one of the bad batch rotors.
This could have been very bad but it ended as good as it possibly could.

A friend of mine did 20K + damage to his 2010 Callaway GS from a bad BDA rotor. He got his from Tire Rack.
CHECK THOSE RECALL NUMBERS CAREFULLY.

Holy negative g's, Batman! That's some serious chit, right there!
At least you won't wear out many pads with rotors like that.
Glad you're OK! That could have left a bruise!

If there is a recall...have not the retailers been warned and asked to pull stock and return it to the manufacturer? Customers should not have to worry about the lot numbers. If this was a known issue, customers should not be able to purchase the affected parts.

I wonder if the problem isn't wider than just their recall ... perhaps their entire manufacturing/rotor product.
I "thought" the recall was about cracking ... this is a complete failure of magnitude 3X ... even Jody would have been in deep poop with that mess!

This rotor was from the bad batch of January 2010 but I am not sure if other dates are affected. And not my car but a friend with whom we were all running at Putnam this past weekend. DBA has put out info but there may still be some out there. The date on this one is faint and on the circumference edge. Heads up guys!

Seems to me there is some product liability involved in that rotor. If I were the manufacturer, I'd get that off the market as fast as possible.

Burning Brakes
Forgive me if it's obvious but were these 1 piece rotors(it looks that way to me). Are there cases of cheap Chinese rotors doing the same thing? Should this be a concern not just for DBA customers but for customers of no name rotors as well?

How did the bill end up @ $20k due to the broken rotor?
The surface of the rotor in the pic above looks to be in good shape - no visible heat checks. Was it used much? What was going on when it broke?

This happened early during the second session of the day. I was doing roughly 100mph and had tapped the breaks just prior to a high speed right hander. The car lurched and then clunk after clunk as the center section broke away from the ring. I limped back to the paddock clunking all the way. The brakes still worked and the clunking stopped when I applied them as the caliper would then grab the ring and stop it from bobbing around inside the wheel.
Just prior to the disintegration, I got a service traction handling system and a pull to the left when I braked.
Only damage was mild scratching inside the wheel. I put on a new set of Centrics and drove the rest of the weekend with no problems and as usual, kicked WNeals (aka Photon) sorry azz
