Helmet Choice: AR10 II or SI-12
My current Bell Mag 5 is expired and I need a new helmet. I autocross and may do a few HPDEs.
I've narrowed my choices down to the HJC AR10 II and the HJC Si-12. I really like the rubbertone black.
A buddy has the Si-12 and it is really light.
The AR-10 seems to give you almost the same helmet with slight styling differences for 1/2 the cost.
Has anyone played with both or own one of either of these and can lend a hand deciding between the two?
Thanks,
Ryan

Just bought the SI-12 and it weighs just over 3 lbs, well made and fits my head well. If you don't have a local store that carries HJC helmets, you can order them both from any of the Forum vendors or race suppliers who carry them, choose one and return the other. Lots of NASA and SCCA events have equipment suppliers who provide trackside support. Spending a half hour trying on all the brands and styles of helmet is time well spent.
Try contacting http://www.dsmproducts.com/index.html They were at the NCM event at VIR and can give you good advice and prices on HJC helmets.
Is the weight difference worth $300 - $400? If you are going to do some endurance racing in the next 5 years, it probably is. (3/4 lb lighter weight x five 45 minute stints at Road Atlanta, VIR or Mid Ohio- your neck willl thank you!) If you're going to do 8 twenty minute track sessions several times a year? Probably not.
Rubbertone black is a very cool finish!
Good luck!

I have the AR10 and love it. It's a lot lighter than my impact and fits great. HJC uses the same shell for all sizes and changes the linings to fit the different sizes. JD

My prior HJC had expired earlier this year. I picked up the HJC AR-10 II and love it. Much lighter than the old "M" HJC that I was wearing and it is nice to be in a SA helmet.
I picked mine up at VIR from DSM. Ken will take care of you.

I recently bought an AR10 after trying both. Both good products, nothing fancy but solid quality, and I know helmets.
1- Try before you buy, make sure the fit is good on YOUR head.
2- I get a lot of track time, but I still went for the less expensive version. I'm young and my neck doesn't get sore and buying those big-a$$ tires means a few sacrifices are being made. But if you spend a lot of time in the car, have the means, and the lid fits you well, why not?
PS: the SI-12 comes with a hard carrying case which would be very practical to prevent dings and scratches when transporting and storing the helmet.

the 12 has pre-drilled hans anchors. But that is not worth the $ just for that. I have the 10 II and it feels great - actually fits my head (vs the G Force, Pyrotect and Bell).
I don't notice the weight, but I only run weenie 275 Rs.
