Default Cup/**** on the bottom of shifter?

I think mine is worn as there is a buzzy noise at 4-5k in 1/2/3 gears.

If I hold/put pressure on the shifter (in gear) when it happens it'll mute the buzz a little.

Shifts ok. Stock 43k miles.

Can you get this part?

So that takes up the VERTICAL slack? I could use a piece of sheet rubber gasket material or maybe even a nylon washer of proper size?

I have not had it apart yet, so I am guessing at what it looks like.

It has been awhile so I dont remember the details but something along those lines.
When you get it apart you will see. the bushing snaps over a ball at the bottom of the stick and rides in a cup in slider in housing. As the bushing wears slop increases.
someone really should offer a replacement for these things

Took it all apart again & got into the shifter. I lubed everything there was to lube with white grease & did the alignment & on the way out I padded & checked everything I could trim wise, but I am sure it's shifter.

Above is the plastic cup that is NOT SOLD SEPARATELY thanks GM. BTW some aftermarket shifters make you use this over, not very smart IMO.

Above is where the cup fits, it would slide in/out with no resistance, I don't know how it's supposed to fit. There is maybe 1mm or 2mm of play that I could tell as I moved the shifter & before the shaft that goes back to the tranny would start to move.

I noticed a mark on the top of the shifter (sealed) box on one of the rivets where the wide flange on the top of the shaft looked to be hitting the rivet. That may be due to wear in the box, who knows? That could be the buzz.

Anyone want to take theirs apart, you would have to get under the big rubber cover (4 bolts) but you "may" be able to do it without taking the shift **** off, the leather cover just snaps off, be careful of the plastic tabs.

I also put a nylon tie around the key used in the adjustment as it was loose, it's just held up by a little plastic bit.

It seems less buzzy now, if I take it apart again (ugh) I will grind down the rivit, that would probably be 1st gear.

In the end I think it's mostly wear in the (unservicable) box.

If it gets bad again I'll put a new shifter in.

Hope this helps someone.
