Default DeltaWing at Le Mans 2012

ACO approved Highcroft Racing entry at Le Mans in 2012 as "unclassified entry". The car may be at Sebring as well. 1000 lbs and 300 hp! Article in Road & Track:

It's a very cool car and a very cool concept. Read the article and see who's behind it.

I would think that the extremely narrow front track would create major cornering problems. That design might be great for a drag strip or Bonneville, but I just can't see how it would work on a road course.

QUOTE=AU N EGL;1578280523]WOW shades of the 40 year old Turbine indy cars[/QUOTE]

I just saw a Turbine car # 66 driven by Bruce Mclaren at a block party/car show in Barrington Il 20 minutes ago.

Those guys were brave . two inches separated the drive from the rt .side of the car turbine & all wheel drive cool
New Indy concept ....

For sure. We wouldn't want anything new and different to be successful.

I'm all for it. People always complain about the lack of innovation, and then something like this comes out and it get poo-poo'd.

Me too. The article says that the front tires are only 4" wide. How the hell does this thing turn with 4" wide tires and such a narrow front track?

No doubt that's everyone's first question.

The car is designed to weigh less than 1000 pounds (!) That's 600+ pounds less than an F1 car. That will certainly help a lot

I expect that the calculations have been done (many, many times) to show that it can work or they wouldn't be putting so much time and energy and money into the effort. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Most of the weight is in the back

so you calculate the weight per contact patch area.

I wonder if it will slow one of the rear wheels to assist in turning?

Cause I can't understand how it will turn otherwise. But, I also only have a degree in total BS, so what do I know

I dig it, and if there is very little weight up front, which it looks like, you shouldn't need too wide of a track or wheel. I hope it makes it out to Sebring as I'd like to see it in action. If it survives there, it should do good at LeMans.

The physics (and I'm sure I could do the math to support my claim) of it says its not likely to run very well. While it is possible to make a car corner on those small tires by playing with weight distribution, you can't overcome weight transfer to the front under braking....
