The corkscrew....the corkscrew is dumb. Who put this on the road? You can't race like this....

Waltrip is a great entertainer. He presents himself as a "dumb as a board" old southern boy, but trust me, it's mostly an act. Not my favorite broadcaster, but I've certainly seen a lot worse.

While Ricky Bobby is a satire of NASCAR "good ol' boy" drivers, I've got to think there's a lot of DW in RB.

Thanks for sharing, and have a good one,
Mike

I've got to wonder if Ferrel used DW as his inspiraton, or if DW was channeling his inner Ricky Bobby playing it up like that on purpose. I mean that whole dialogue could have been right out of Talladega Nights... and he even looks a bit like Ferrel in that clip. Either way... funny as heck

Waltrip is the reason many can't stand NASCAR. Between him, Larry McReynolds, Jeff Hammond and Kenny Wallace, it's absolutely braindraining.

I'd much rather watch Brad Daugherty, he's a helluva lot more articulate and he races with us.

I had the chance to race with him in the 80s when he was brought in to our local 1/2 mile track. He drove one of the local cars and I am sure he was well paid for it but what made him different from the other big names that came to the track was DW walked around the pits and talked to everyone. Most of the name drivers never came into the pits until it was time for them to "race". DW was there most of the night looking at cars and telling stories. That night changed the way I saw him not only as a driver but a person.

I thought the same thing when watching the V8's this weekend. He does a pretty good job of making it seem like it was the first time in a race car.

Ken Squier is the one that I cannot stand, he would routinely misidentify cars and drivers, repeat technical trivia he had heard from someone that actually knew about racing and wrap it all up with "common men doing uncommon things".
