Helmet paint vs decal?
I was thinking about doing something to my new sa2010 full helmet. Looks like custom paint runs about $100.
What about diy decals?
Anyone done this? Happy with results? Pictures?

Helmet Paint
It's hard to get a decal to wrap around a round surface but with the new generation of 'wraps' available from sign makers they might have a way of doing it better.
The helmet manufacturers have recomendations on painting their products. It seems some users in the past have use products that softened the helmet (according to the warnings from the maker), so check with them first.

I have painted all my helmets. First one I did myself...very basic....the last two have been done by TC at http://helmetdesigns.com. Both were AMAZING jobs that I got constant compliments on...alas my last one lasted about 40 minutes before being destroyed in my crash...but it still LOOKS good on the shelf in my office. The one about 8 years ago was about $450 and the last one was about $800.

I've had lots of my helmets painted, and most good helmet painters will charge a good bit of cash. It all depends on the design and what you choose color wise. Chrome and other options add more $$ to the mix. I use Alex at Alive Designs (California) and also Censport Graphics (Idaho). Both do really great work. The only problem with getting a helmet painted is that you will inevitably hit it on something and scratch it, and it costs some serious $$. I haven't seen a helmet wrapped, but with the technology now days it might be something worth looking into.
Here is my most recent helmet, this was about $1K.

find someone local that paints motorcycles...airbrush guys. I can't guarantee you'll find a bargain, but my guy did a great job for a very reasonable price.
I make and install stickers, and they will peel. A wrap might be worth looking into, but I like my painted helmet much better than any taping/stickers I've done on previous helmets. I still have another 4 years out of this one!

This is my PyroTech helmet with the graphics option
IIRC, it was about $30 extra over the plain white helmet.
Whatever you do, make sure you add decals or stencil in paint your blood type and any drug allergies. I'm allergic to penicillin so that's on the back of the helmet in red letters.

Stickers are easy to find on ebay and some of the forum vendors, you just need to pay attention to the size. Here is my helmet which was painted by Indocil Art. They do a great job and a single color is $100 (i.e. you could match your car) then you can start adding options after that.
The CE corvette logos are decals I supplied they cleared over them.

the vette flags on the chin was from Zip Corvettes.
the "Corvette" wording I printed out on Bumpersticker Laser jet stickers. Then cut it to size.
