Default Flying start 3 lap Autox..... crazy.

this wkd im invited to a Porsche PCA autox event. their format is a bit different. you get to do a 70% effort untimed 1st lap so you have a flying start when you get back to the start line and also allows you to warm up your tires, brakes, and brain. then you take 3 laps of the course with each lap being timed as an individual run.

pretty cool format, gonna feel a lil strange and take some getting used to.

any of you do a similar type autocross before?

Yes, the PCA in the DFW area does the same thing out at a rural airport. Higher speed than an SCCA autocross, but considerably below DE speeds.

It's a blast!

Have fun, and have a good one today,
Mike

Yes. One club around me has an event at a 3/8 mile oval with a 3 cone slalom on one straight. Its more fun than a parking lot event to me.

being that its a porsche event, im at odds with myself. go on the hoosiers so I can keep up, or go out and just have fun on my firestones and save the rubber for my reg scca. either way should be a blast. smallish course tho so speeds still low. 55 maybe

With this type of format, remember for compensate for tire pressure buildup. You may want to start your run a few PSI lower in pressure, as compared to a "traditional" one run at a time autocross format.

I usually only get 1 good run from the whole day. Most of the time is spent going in circles scratching my helmet.

I like tracks more because then I just follow the pavement.

yes, I really enjoy road courses. i never tried an autocross though so maybe it's easier in person to follow the cones. looks hard on these vids

It is easier in person to follow the cones, but still, I have seen plenty of people get lost out there......

sounds like the format COMscc does for Solo1 (road course)

Need to walk the course at least twice in order not to get lost

On the 2 mile courses @ Devens it's goood exercise

Your eyes are much better at pulling cones out than the camera is. Plus you get Youtube compression and its losses.

The great thing about autocross is the competition; you're on the clock, and a well laid out course will allow you to truly run at 10/10ths without fearing for your or your car's safety.

Also, depending on the group you run with, you'll get 8 or more runs a day. This video counted as 3 runs (3 timed laps) and we ran 4 heats. Best of those laps count.

Other groups have so many cars they don't have as many runs. More reason to find a different group.

Here's a video from a shorter, but no less fun, event:

Y'all have a good one!
