Since we are on the subject, what about mini tub of the rear?
Seems like a minor issue to us competitors, so we don't care.

Speaking of frame rail alterations, I was talking with a fabricator today about using the frame rail as a brake duct like David Farmer did on his C6 race car a few years ago.

It would require opening the fame rail at the front and attaching the brake duct hose to it and cutting a hole back a ways where a hose could be connected and run the hose to the spindle. It would eliminate the clearance issues we have now with the hose.

David probably has pictures showing how he did it.

I wonder if that would that be a technical violation of the frame rail rules?

You are retaining the OEM framerail. Brake ducts are allowed. It is not adding strength.

From what the fabricator says, it actually strengthens the frame at the point of the outlet since it is boxed in at that point.

I'd hate to do something like that and find out it would be a problem with Greg.

Fill it with expanding foam rather than a plate so it's not "boxed"?

Ask Greg with some pictures or sketches.

I'm hoping David will post some pictures of how he did it on his car and I'll use those.

You're right, but thankfully I rerouted the nitrous to the radiator overflow tank and keep it captured there.

Is it puncture proof?

I believe Randy from DRM does it too on their race car build. It's something I've really looked into and even more info on it would be even more helpful. I want that done to my race car.

I don't have any photos, but it is a common mod. Also, since you are cutting in front of the suspension points, you aren't stiffening anything that would be a performance enhancement.

Your "fabricator" is more talented that I am.....all I ever did was cut a few holes and lightly weld some very thin tubing to the hole. I would call my version "boxing" the frame.

and personally, I would consider the frame rails the parts between the front and rear suspension. Anything in front of the front suspension, or behind the rear suspension, is crush structure/bumper.

Randy has some interesting pictures here on a C6. There is one of the duct being fabricated, then another later where the hoses are connected up.

best I can do is attached. Basically you want a hole in the side of the frame, roughly where the DRM kit or the C6Z06 ducts dump out. You weld a piece of tubing around the hole to attach your flex line. For the inlet, you cut a hole in the bottom of the frame. You can weld a piece of tubing there as well, although I found you could just run your flex up into the hole and secure it due to the angle. Spray foam behind the outlet, and in front of the inlet, and tape/weld and openings. You get a good air supply that you'll never grind off with your front tires.

This was so common around the paddock that I guess I assume everyone had seen it.
