Default LS oil cooler adapter w/thermostate

Anyone tried the MOCAL LS oil cooler line adapter with thermostat? Seems a good solution to the big oil cooler/low oil temp issues of running a race cooler on the street.

About 4 pages down...

With our socal weather you wont need a thermostat here. My oil temps stay in the 180s cruising.

I have one sitting in my shop right now, waiting for me to finish putting the rest of the oil cooler package together. I will post some pictures and impressions up on here when i get it installed.

One more piece to have an issue with and more fittings in the system. Just cover the heat exchanger with cardboard or make a fancy metal cover for cold weather use.

Follow that link, the adapter is one piece, replacing the oil temp sender adapter, just like all the AN fitting adapters and the OEM C6Z oil cooler adapter. The oil cooler T stat serves another purpose, on cold startup the oil won't have to pressurize the complete oil cooler system, since the T stat is closed until it sees 180F.

No more money than the standard AN fitting adapter. might as well run a stat.

Ahhh... I see now... pretty nice. A few years back a company tired to make an adapter block with an integrated T-stat but it wouldn't clear any LT headers so it never really caught on. This looks compact.

In my car I run a LS4 high volume pump so I never see the LOW OIL PRESSURE warning for a split second like I used to when I had a stock pump and an oil cooler.

At first glance, this sounds good. Just the same, flow dynamics of our fluid should be taken into consideration. The more complicated our lines become, the more restrictions we potentially have. I wonder if the manufacturer of this has a Cv or flow coefficient for their thermostat— probably not.

there was a thread about this a while back, I believe there was info that it would not fit our cars. I'm not familiar with it first hand.

I also live in S Cal with a C5Z and just wrap my DRM Track Oil Cooler in tin foil for street driving and getting to the track. I maintain 185 on freeways and have no issue hitting 200 on the street.

I am local in Thousand Oaks area if you ever want to take a look.

How did you make out with your wheels ?

The unit now comes with a spacer for our pans....here is the adapter on that auction site. Still like to know if anyone has first hand experience with it.

I like the shortened oil path with the T stat adapter, but I'm not overly concerned about street use getting to temp. 180 is fine on the street. Undecided for now, but I plan on a large race sized cooler.

As for wheels, I purchased two sets of C5Z wheels (Speedline and Alcoa) and will offload the 17"s. Right now I'm back and forth over tires, R888 or 555RII's.

I use the following MOCAL oil thermostat:

It is their 200 degree F version.

Although I am not a fan of using the fitting on the side of the block for an oil cooler, I am pleased to see MOCAL has made 200 degrees F the set point for the adapter.
