What are the best rotors to be used for road racing?

Default best rotors

napa used to sell the front ones for $27 ea. buy the cheap ones and burn em up. new cheap ones will stop you just as good as high dollar ones. just my two cents worth. others will flame me and some will agree.

OEM work fine but are heavy and they crack too easily.
I've had good luck with Wilwood 2pc rotors.

Cost considered, or not? I use Stoptech. "Best" is probably carbon/carbon

My ST2 car has 14" 2 piece stoptech rotors and they are fantastic. Last all season (actually 2 seasons and counting) with hawk dtc70 pads. It's all about heat dissipation and metallurgy and it's hard to beat larger 2 piece performance rotors. I hated the cheap napa rotors that cracked every single day at the track. You get what you pay for.

I used DBA4000 slotted rotors with XP12 front pads. Stock rear rotors with XP10's. Doug Rippie brake duct kit.

Looking at the DBA 4000 vs the AC Delco and OEM rotors, it looks to me like the opening to the cooling vanes is severely restricted at the hub section. Is this a design feature or a design flaw?

Do these use the stock calipers and standard size pads?

Agreed. One common theme I see in all threads like this is somebody mentions a one-piece and typically throw out "Napa" rotors and how easily they crack. So what's the next recommendation everyone makes? A two-piece rotor. You don't have to jump to those right away. I've run 6 events with DBA4000 front slotted and they still haven't cracked all the way through.

Some members aren't getting anymore events out of 2-piece rotors than one piece. Ask Bill Dearborn in the C6 Z section.

Not saying there aren't advantages to the two-piece but comparing a cheap-*** Napa rotor to a 2-piece is a big jump. There are much better single piece rotors you can try before making a 2-piece commitment. Just saying.

Default rotors

a simple question. The best rotors.
Depends on what you like. I go to the track for Fun. and the stock ZO6 is made for fun. Dollar to Fun ratio = stock parts. I do like the Hawk + pads though.
The best money I've spent is on driving schools. This sport is for fast Drivers. Not about how fast your car can go. Brakes are just a small part of that.

The only thing I don't like about the Wilwood kit is the way the ring/hat fastners thread directly into the alum hat.

Take it from somebody that has put thousands of race and TT miles on these cars, there is no comparison in the longevity of a cheap chinese parts store rotor and a quality 2 pc.

Lots of advantages to 2pc. If you have 18" wheels or plan on getting some then go with 14" and big calipers.

If you plan on staying with 17" wheels up front then contact Hardbar. Gary has some very good prices on very good parts.
