Default Help... what Cam for ls2 c6 track car

Hey guys i am looking to replace the cam in my ls2 c6 that is a track only car for some other cam that will work better at the track..

i had spoken to a tech at Comp. Cam and they refer me the 54-460-11
cam for the cathedral port heads.. or the 54-4700-11 ..both have 621-624 lift..is this ok or do i need to stay under 600 total lift..

does anyone know the specs on a stock ls2 cam?

Thank you in advance...

Manny

dont open up the engine. Keep your stock cam for best results.

Spend that money elsewhere.

mods for track cars

Contract patches.

Tires,
brake pads, brake fluid and brake cooling
Seats and harnesses

engine cooling, bigger radiator
oil cooler
trans and diff coolers.

Then nothing but seat time.

here are my mods and a little back ground

brembo gt 380mm front brakes... z06 with DRM stainless steel 4pots
Hawk dtc 70 front with dtc 60 rear
brake cooling duct work with fans
Moton double adjustable coil overs,
Pfadt heavy adjustable front and rear sway bars
sks racing wheel hubs with Arp wheel studs
up graded Z06 trans and diff
trans and diff oil coolers
2- 19 row engine oil cooler
1 7/8 stainless headers no cats small resonators
7 1/4 3 disk clutch on light weight fly wheel
full race roll cage
Sparco evo 2 racing seats and harness
gutted interior
Braile light weight battery relocated to the rear
CCW wheels with R6 tires

But the motor is basically stock with a tune,, with 15 tack days

I have been racing for the last 30 years,, started in karts, ran formula ford, sports 2000, Formula Atlantic, GT1, Trans/Am and so on.. I instruct and coach at different schools and Hpde events and Clubs like Chin motorsports, Hooked on driving, ERME, Nasa, SCCA, and so on..

the car is a track only car to have some fun and teach my Business Partner at HPDE events.. over the year we have been running it at and little by little upgrading it...its a never ending storing but we are having a great time and i am able to pass on some of my knowledge

we were looking for a performance HP upgrade with this motor... we plan on later getting a built up Road race motor but that up the road...

So we believe the right cam would liven up the motors some but not sure what that Cam could be...

Any Suggestion?

Sorry for the long reply but just wanted to give you some info about the car and myself...

Best Regards....Manny

Ok since you have quite a bit of racing experience and know engine maintenance and reliability issues that is different.

LS2 204/211 525/525 116

GM race cams ( 20 year old designs but still very good cams )
GMPP ASA 226/236 525/525 110
GM- Grand am cup 88958606 239/251 570/570 106

comp cams road race cam XER281HR 54-446-11:
232/234 595/598 112

Texas Speeds
Torquer v.2 232/234 595/598 112
1800-6400 RPM Power Band; Great for jumping out of corners - use mild LS6 heads

maybe same as Comps cam above

Generally a smaller exhaust is hotter off the turns and bigger exhaust is hotter at the top. So you will have to make the call here. Remember, exit speed is for the whole straight. However, if this is fender to fender, those last few mph make a big difference in passing.

Calling some one like LG and ask for their Recommendations could work for you.

Good Luck

Wow Manny, I didn't know your background was so extensive. Can you adopt me so I can learn a few things, lol.

FWIW, the new LS3 us running and tuned. Made 407/421 with a super conservative tune. We left car at 22-23 degrees of timing and 12.4 AFR which should keep the motor safe for quite a while. Got a set of Hoosier R6's on the way as well. I've never run on anything but good street tires so it should be exciting.

Look for me when you get to Homestead on 6/30. Maybe I can take you for a few laps and vice versa to learn from you.

Sean ,, it would be my pleasure to help you with anything i can..

i really haven't touched the motor as this car was just going to be a fun track car as i had my D sports racer,, but i sold it ..

little by little we keep upgrading the vette to the point were it is now..almost a full out track and race car.. We plan on racing it in the near future at the Fara event and some of the local Nasa, and SCCA plus lots of HPDE events for my partner to get seat time with the goal of getting his competition incense ..

we would like to run the Fara dual 6hrs event at the end of the year..

but for now i was looking for a nice cam to pippin the ls2 up some..

thanks to you ,AU N EGL , and a few other for the info.. it looks like i am going to get a custom grid and i will post the spec as soon as i get them to see what you guys think...

I plan on having the car done for that event plus i also have a GTR For a friend that we are also setting up with full suspension (3 way Penske, sway bars, bigger j hook rotors, tubular A arm and so on ) that we will have out there also..

see you there if not sooner...Regards..Manny
