Corvette Sets Track Record by 4 seconds
This is an in-car video of a 2007 C6 Corvette with an LS7 engine and Grand Sport body work. Done by Phoenix Performance with Driver Andrew Aquilante, this car broke the New Jersey Motorsports Park class record by an amazing 4 seconds.
Car has American Racing Headers, Penske Shocks, Brembo front brakes, T1 springs and bars, and the rest is pretty much a C6. So, it's kind of a steel framed Z06, with a few racing mods.
Took place this past weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Sit back and enjoy...

I have watched this video 20 times. That's a very nice lap. I keep looking for the huge car control required, big speed everywhere. None of that. Just really smooth driving and carrying momentum. Just awesome. The 1-2-3 section looks like serious time is made there. The car looks beautifully set up. A great job by all that contributed to the effort. Great driving as well. Thank you very much for posting this up!! I for one greatly appreciate it. I am learning from this!!

he is incredibly fast through 1 and 2 in this vid no doubt about that. that hiccup right after turn 1 freaks me out and i feel it going some 15 mph slower than he is, of course I'm on street tires or scrubs vs whatever he is running, to say nothing of the difference behind the wheel.
In 3 I am usually way farther to the right at exit and setup well for 4. He on the other hand is track left giving up 4 somewhat but carries serious speed all the way through 2 and 3. It makes sense as you can't pass there anyway against a car of equal speed. Passing backmarkers would be a possibility I guess if you just jammed it in and hoped they didn't turn down on you but most times they will. He then smoothly applies power through 4 doesn't go way left and just a nice arc through 5.
I thought I read he was on A6's.
The one that gets me as I continue to watch it is how he literally coasts it into the lightbulb. He's going so fast on entry he can't use anymore throttle. Now that's serious entry speed!!
I am going to try all of this one turn at a time when I am there next and see how I make out. We have an 08' Viper ACR that arrived last week and I am curious to see how it works.

yes he's very patient in the lightbulb getting the car turned. almost seems he could go down to 3rd there before accelerating out. but cant argue with hitting over 150 by the time he gets to the tower!

a couple of people have called and yes we will set up corvettes for the track this way. We have modified the set up a bit to improve it and will test it again in the next two weeks...
