Default LS3 build - cam selection and CR for E85?

I'm may be making the switch to E85 soon and may be adding a cam in about a year. The car is 75% road course, but still street driven at times.

If I were to select a cam and optimum compression ratio to take advantage of the E85 fuel (I hear 12 to 13 is about right?). Can those of you who have experience in the RR world and those of you familiar with E85 builds please offer suggestions?

I'm thinking of a cam around 0.580 lift, high 230's or low 240's duration. I don't want anything crazy, just something that carries the power band well past the stock LS3 cam. Many guys with LS3's are running cams with 0.610 or more lift and having no PTV issues. Based on this, I would assume a 0.580 lift cam and 12.0 CR would offer roughly the same PTV as the example above.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

You read my mind. I will be doing that regardless of the vendor I purchase through. His knowledge is light years above mine and the $25 is a drop in the bucket in this overall project.

Any suggestions as to the right compression for E85 and max cam lift to achieve this without fly cutting the pistons? I think 0.580 and 12.0 will most likely work well but I'm a NOOB when it comes to calculating theoretical PTV. Anybody know of a formula or are there too many variables with LSA, lift and duration?

13.1 to 13.4 is the most ideal for e85, anything past that you will start to pull timing. E85 burns 30% slower so you need a little more exhaust duration and lift compared to gas.

Thanks. I think it may be tough to find a solid cam and still ghetto 13.1 CR without flu cutting the pistons. I may try to find something that is on the t end for a 93 octane engine and still work well with E85 so I have the ability to swap if desired. I think the LS3 heads have a weaker exhaust runner than intake so opening up the exhaust duration will probably work for both applications.

I have heard timing as high as 30 degrees with no knock using E85 - crazy!

I would get with Carlos with at http://www.theair-charger.com/qumoht...&start=45.html

He works with WCCH on e85 heads on the ls7 and I am sure he could do the same with the ls3 heads, something around 12.1 that could run 93 or e85. From what I have seen fly cutting is pretty easy with the heads off, a little time consuming but not hard.
