Running w/o TPMS for track rims on a zo6?
Quick question, do I need to run Tpms sensors on a set of track only rims? Or will the car go into limp mode or not go into competition mode? (2006 z) thanks!

Yes you need them. I have 2 friends with Z06 track cars and they maintain a set on all of their rims, and I'm sure they wouldn't bother with the hassle if they could get around it. They are constantly changing and swapping tires and they spend a lot of time running around playing with the little programmer.

Yes. Buy a $100 tpms programmer or make friends with a guy at the track with one.

I have the tool, just wasn't sure if it was mandatory to have sensors in the rims. Both for setting up some new tires for the track only, and a friend offered me his set to try for a weekend. But they are used on a 67 camaro so he doesn't run sensors.

TPMS isn't the worse thing in the world. From a safety standpoint you know in advance when a tire is going down, which is nice when traveling at 150 mph+. Also, I run with the front tire pressure displayed so I always know when the tires are up to pressure and also when coming off the track how much I need to let out due to progressively increasing track temps.
PS Wrap the sensors with heat tape when installing and they won't fail prematurely from the heat.

Running w/o senders in track wheels, and problems kick about 20 mins away from the senders - and I have the stock wheels sitting next to the car in the pits.
Going to try making a canister with senders to keep in the car.

hmmm, so is this one of these things that is ok to run w/o for a 2006 but not on the later years? I may have to throw on my nearly bald set of tires and not teach the sensors, just to see what happens but it sounds like I'll be ok with a 2006.... thanks guys!

I have an '08 and as I mentioned earlier, I don't have any issues with comp mode. I have not taken everything off so there may be an issue there that I have not experienced and do not intend to either.
