Check oif it's really coming from John.... just because it shows his name as the sender doesn't mean it's him.
I've been getting spams from dozens of people I know recently,
but when looking at the actual address it was sent from, it's not them.
Lot's come in with a subject of Hi Joel and then have a weblink
in the msg. Never click on those things.
