Default What do you think about this short block?

I was going to buy a used block and build a whole spare motor off it, but now I may be in a time pinch and need a short block in a hurry. Just kicking around on ebay I found this. Any advice is appreciated. I've got a new LS6 top end sitting here ready to go.

Nothing wrong with using the bored out 5.3 block, has the improved bay to bay breathing of the later LS1/LS6 block.
We use a 5.3 block on a forged road race motor.

Not that familiar with Thompson Motorsports, but some of the guys on LS1tech have used them for budget builds.

This one looks better, with forged pistons. Worth the extra $300? I'll be running an LS6 top end with a Texas Speed 228R cam, LT headers. It looks like I either buy something like this, or put the LS6 top end on my current LS1 with 115k mi on it and run it the rest of this summer while I build another bottom end. Not sure if I want to take that chance to save the small amount of coin by building it all myself.

Thanks again for your time Kyle, I'm looking forward to getting your engine in the car. Now stop playing on the internet and get to work building my short block!
