Is this correct? I have never tracked a new Corvette with a warranty but know and drive with several people who do and none have said they have had problems with the warranty.

As far as the system in the C7 is concerned, I'm keenly interested in the data it's going to record and how. Can't wait to find out the specifics!

I'm sorry for what happened to your father, but it had nothing to do with the fact that it was an HPDE. It was either a local problem (ie, idiot at dealer) or there's more to this story than you're sharing.

Sort of how I was treated when my engine dropped a valve about 2 years ago. Sitting at the dealership with a harness bar and Wilwood calipers installed and a manifold pressure DTC that was set at 2600 rpms and 113 mph it was clear the car probably wasn't being driven on the street when the failure occurred however they replaced the engine under the warranty.

I got to agree with Jas on this one. I've been at track events where some of the GM engineering staff were present and saw both a ZR1 and Z06 drop an engine. In talking to the GM guys shortly afterwards about it they were like we already took care of it and called in the ok for the warranty replacement. This was only about 45 minutes after the ZR1 engine let go and the car had not even been put on the trailer yet. GM understands that these cars are going to be tracked, and supports it. Where you start getting off on your own is once you start modifying your engine. Have a cam, tune, aftermarket TB etc. etc. well then it's sort of at the discretion of the service writer. Have a stock engine and imho you have noting to worry about.

Each dealership is an independent business.
I had a talk with the service mgr (who races) and he said each dealership gets "reviewed" by GM on how much & what they are warranting and if they are "over generous" that GM will get tougher on reimbursement.
Made a lot of sense to me.

Right, perhaps it should have been covered but it wasn't. Just don't want people running around thinking they're going to be covered under warranty while on track because someone on the Internet said so. I've heard far more stories of people having to doll out cash for new motors than I have of GM happily replacing blown motors due to track use.

Funny story about covering a car used on track, we were at NJMP a few years ago and on the last session of the day almost everyone packed it in already so Chris says "screw it I'll take my Honda out for a rip", (new accord-under 5k on it-lease DD) well after a lap around the track it threw two rods threw the block.
Service manager "I see you were going 96mph at 6400 RPM when this occured", Chris' answer "yup that sounds about right", if it cant handle it put a governor on it". New motor was ready about a week and half later.

Zings shouldn't be covered. They're hardware abuse, as outlined by Bill above. I could totally agree with a service writer refusing a warranty claim (but he can't VOID the entire warranty!) if the engine was zinged.

Just because you have a great relationship with your dealer does not mean every dealer is willing to do such things with every client.
Just ask the people who have had to front the bill for new motors while still in the warranty period.
