Default Good source for ballast ?

Need more ballast than anticipated and the lead compact stuff is not that cheap. Anyone know of a good source? We have checked with Summit and a couple of other places.

Thanks!

I see a lot of SCCA guys using weights from a gym set.
I've always used bar stock - like the piece we put where the rear leaf spring used to be. It can be bolted to the inside of the rear bumper. You can get bar stock in a variety of sizes, I usually use 1"x3" it's a little under 1lb per inch.

I usually search ebay for guys unloading ballast.
I have also found guys selling old lead weights then just melt them in a pan and make your own. Just takes an old metal pan and a propane torch unless your wife will let you use the stove

ebay is a good place to buy lead, if it fits in a flat rate box, it ships. $15 moves a LOT of lead

...more input on the gym equipment source. I got all the weight I wanted from the maintenance person for a gym chain. Flat and predrilled with holes in several weights. Just happened to see him going to his truck in the parking lot.

Ummmmm......I have always been a fan of MOO COW beer or anything with sugar in it. The only draw back is you typically have to place the ballast about middle of the car on the left side........

The one drawback to lead is it is extremely difficult to drill for mounting.
