Default Anyone try upgrading a C5 with the LS7 torque tube – Trans and Differential.

I had my Torque tube, transmission and differential go in my 2000 C5 and wanted to upgrade to the 2012 LS7 drive train. Anyone try this? And if so did you have any issues.
Thanks

The red FRC just rec'd a forged LS2, A&A Vortech 10 rib, Dallas Performance direct drive, 2013 ZR1 trans/2013 Z06 diff, C6 cradle, LCA's, fuel system, Julio/methanol injection.....(I'll stop with the 1/4 mile, airstrip brawler mod list)

The crate on the forklift has another C6 rear setup that came in this week, tough to see, but the trans/diff is on the bottom, with the cradle/LCA's on top

The install of the trans/diff happens in 4 hours, the cooling lines and exhaust takes some time.

ALL 2006up Z06's and ZR1's/Grandsports have a mechanical pump on the front of the trans and a diff pump, the diff pump runs off the pinion gear and moves fluid through a H.E.(heat exchanger) which is bolted to the LHS diff cover, the diff HE grabs the cooled transmission fluid, the trans fluid is pumped to the to the side tank of the radiator(of course this is all in OEM config). Most will convert the QD diff/trans fittings to AN -6 and run a standalone cooler for the trans or simply use a crossover tube/hose to cycle fluid.

Give me a call, I can go over the parts/process

Scott, thanks for the note

bottom pic is a 2009 C6Z06 trans that was removed from a C6Z

fore/aft dimensions are the same, you'll notice the trans tailhousing has an 8 bolt diff face opposed to the 5 of the C5, also the OEM QD fitting for the trans fluid return

For track use, you could swap the trans for a 2006up C6Z unit(using a C5 tailhousing) and have RPM transmissions EDM the C5 pinion to 30 spline.

Lot's of options.............
1. gearing C6Z, ZR1(2 versions), GS, ZR1 gears are also unique in material
2. 27 or 30 spline output shaft will need to match pinion on diff(all C5 are 27)
3. coolers

Why do you need the C6 LCA when switching over?

It also broke the Fly Wheel cover.
Anyone know a good way to get to the bolts?

Lower the front subframe/engine cradle a little by loosening but not removing the 4 cradle bolts. Support the engine with a jackstand or 2 and let the engine and cradle droop a little bit (about an inch), down and tilted lower towards the rear of the vehicle. You will gain some clearance to better reach the bellhousing bolts. Swivel socket works best to get the bolts out (13mm if I recall).

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.

Rich, you DON'T need the c6 Lca's if using coil overs

The C6 uses the C5 "style" front ride height adjuster on the rear

So, it's the use of the C6 leaf spring that dictates the change

Great question.

I believe if the C6 control arms are not used with it's crossmember the rear axle centerline moves rearward a bit.

I currently have 2 C5's I've completed this month.

1. FRC w/ 2013 ZR1 trans/2013 Z06 diff
2. 2001 Z06 w/ 2009 Z06 trans/diff

Never checked the C5 LCA's(as both were not coilover setups), so I'd be 'speculating' on the centerline movement.

John, nice meeting you today, I'll have to see the carnage soon. Hope I answered most of your questions.
