Why can't GM do this?
No matter how you might feel about Porsche they know about heritage. In all of the 14 years of Corvette racing at LeMans GM has never done a video like this. GM has spent maybe a hundred million dollars racing at LeMans and they can't to an ad this good.

For Porsche, racing is their life blood. For GM it's a public relations exercise.
That new RSR machine is a pure racer that the privateer racing community can purchase from the Porsche factory and it will come with with factory support. Let us know when you can get yourself a new C7R to go racing with. GM outsources the creation of the Corvette racing cars and (as we all know) keeps the effort "theirs" and makes any privateers go it alone. GM spent much of it's life being opposed to racing. If they'd had their way the wonderful (original) Grand Sport race cars would have all been destroyed. Now they use them as PR fodder
Next year Porsche will go after the overall Le Mans win with their own LMP1 race car. Mark Webber, currently of Red Bull F1, will be one of the drivers. Porsche has the most overall Le Mans wins of any manufacturer. Racing is what they do.

That is a nice video.

Nice ad,
Has nothing to do with Porsche heritage,
The winner is the only one who gets to be humble.
What makes you think any other manufacturer, including GM would be incapable of making a tribute commercial just as nice.

Seriously?
"We're back. Back where we belong. Where we fell in love so many years ago. With a Porsche 911 RSR, the strongest we have ever built..."
The Porsche RSRs won the races that they entered.
No one said "incapable".

A cracking vid and very tastefully done in my eyes! Well done Porsche for NOT just celebrating your win but for being honnest!
As others have said this is Porsche territory. The 911 RSR is probably the best ready to race car you CAN buy in the world for this class. That's why there are so many of them racing!
Don't forget Porsche start with probably one of the best drivers cars in the world as their base car. Then build on the areas needed for the race car. And the areas Porsche don't like about the race car they build into the road cars. That's probably one of the reasons the 911 chassis is so stiff!
For GM to replicate this would never be an easy task and would take massive investment. For one they would need to sell the cars! For ever 1 c7r there will be racing next year there will be 100 or more 991 911rsr's out there. That's 100 times the telemetry and data gathering for Porsche from tracks all Over the world in every country that's racing.
They would need to make the base cars better! More of a 911, 458 and Aston beater in all aspects. That would give them a better base for the race car and also give them a better link for the road cars to the race cars.

Jeezus H. Christ I think I just threw up in my mouth as I watched that crap.
My narration would go something like this:
"We had an 80 pound weight advantage over the Corvettes, a slightly larger restrictor, more development time on the tires, and a huge horseshoe up our German asses and we're back. Back on the top two steps of the podium, with our new car versus GM's almost decade-old piece. Hopefully we don't get lapped next year by the C7R. Because we probably will."
Get that crap off the CORVETTE FORUM.
And I'm not saying I don't RESPECT P-car. I'm just saying my allegiance lies where it lies and it isn't swayed by one less-than-perfect race (even if that race was LE MANS) and a cheesy P-car advert.
That's my $0.02 and I'm not apologizing for it.

Well ... Using the death of one guy to advertise about your company ... Not very classy in my opinion.
I wouldn't have made this comment if the video clip was a tribute about the guy who died. But it is not, it is a company bragging out about its success ...
And I like the Porsche cars ... But this, no.

This is a great discussion. I would only add that Gary Pratt can build a great race car. He can compete with the rest of the world. The problem is GM has no clue about what to do with his efforts. They don't know how to market the 14 year history of Corvettes at LeMans.
I'm not really as critical of the cars as I am of the GM marketing effort. They are so wrapped up in themselves that they have forgotten what they're doing. GM has become so self absorbed it's pathetic. It's not just Ackerson (the CEO). It starts with the Board.
Basically what's the point of racing if you don't use it to sell the product?
