Default c6z first track mods

I was wondering what everyone though was best bang for the buck hpde mod.

Ive got the car apart for a rebuild on the heads and im planning on
pfadt motor mounts and want to do something else while its sitting

last time i had it at the track (VIR) the main thing i noticed was the garbage seats so im thinking of doing sparcos and harnesses. Its down to that or sways and shocks maybe.

Im also gonna put some decent pads on it if anyone wants to make some sugestions.

car is otherwise 100% stock

Yes! Buy a membership in a local Country Club, get a set of golf clubs, take a few lessons and sell the Vette!

Trust me, you'll thank me later!

LOL Second that ^ or any other hobby. Unless you have unlimited resources.

But far and away, the best mod you can do out of the gate is frontal-intake brake ducts and a spindle duct kit and race pads.

Then I would do seats and harnesses. I have the Pfadt motor mounts and the Pfadt tranny mounts they do save about 6 LBS together, but I'm not sure I would prioritize them over a seat/harnesses.

By my math, since pads for the Z06 calipers are so pricey, with Wilwood W6A kit will pay for itself after around 5 pad changes.

Im just gonna do the mounts because the stock ones tend to go. im trying to fix some of these issues so i dont have to worry about them..ie valve guides. those are happening either way.

My vote is for a good seat and harness. You will drive better and feel much more comfortable on track. My instructor convinced me to get seats after my first event it made such a big difference. You won't regret it!

Once you start doing more than one day HPDEs and moving up to intermediate and advanced groups, the seats will become a requirement. Plus you will feel safer with them.

even though there is no increase in safety. in the event of a rollover your strapped body will now become the support column. SQUISHY!!!

I am more than willing to take that risk though

theres a pretty good chance if i do the seats im going to put a roll bar in it too. Mainly because the materials wont be THAT much more than a good harness bar.

i heard that!

A rollbar is certainly better than nothing. But don't feel too safe in it, most of the pre-fabbed bars available for the Z do not mount to the frame. Most of them sit on the ridge behind the seats which was never designed for vertical loads and will give way like aluminum butter in a rollover.

Ive got a bender and a welder haha not going the pre fab route. its def going to the frame. i hadn't decide exactly how im going to mount it yet. maybe weld some inserts in the frame, or adhesive and big a$$ rivets

I looked at a couple race cars to see how they did it, one of which had it mounted to the floor with some dinkey (maybe 3/16) brackets. I think that would do more harm than good,

I'm jealous of your skills to fab a structural rollbar!

Chevy Nick:
Jim Dillon and DaveAZ both have good write-ups on this. I used a 4" circle saw to cut a hole on either side of radiotor (remove temp probe on left side first).
