Default New Ride - 2010 911 Turbo Race Car

First off I'm keeping my 08 Z06 and ASA race car.

However, a good friend of mine who I've "play" raced my Corvettes and race car against his 911's for years runs a two car Porsche Club of America (PCA) race team. He has a 911 Cup car which he has a driver for and the 2010 911 Turbo race car pictured below which he drove. He had a significant off track excursion several months ago resulting in back surgery and a damaged race car. The surgery and condition of his back has forced him to give up his role as a driver. He’s been asking me to drive it for him at PCA events around the country. I agreed to drive for him. Hopefully repairs to the car should be completed this week for a shakedown run at Hallett Motor Racing here in Tulsa.

Car is fast and well built. He’s got well over $300,000 in the car.

The team has a nice two car stacker transport for getting the cars to the track as well as professional mechanics/pit crew. I just need to fly in and drive.

Looking forward to it.

Rick

That's the guy. One of my best friends. He's also a Corvette fan. To make the story a bit shorter I left out a chapter. My friend had another guy know for wrecking peoples race cars drive it for him at one event after he repaired it from his own accident.

He let this guy drive it even after being warned by a bunch of folks that the guy is really good at wrecking other people's race cars. I warned him as well. At that time he was trying to get me to drive it but I didn't want to cut into my main weekend activity of riding motocross. Low and behold this guy wrecked it his first time out. I think it was at Sebring.

So, this repair is actually from the second wreck. Car is completely updated, upgraded and fast. My friend typically runs low 1:18s at Hallett. I think I can get it around a bit quicker especially with the now reduced weight and increased power he just spent money getting.

BTW, do you remember I'm the guy who sold the Hardbar harness bar and other Z06 stuff to you? You picked it up from Scott at the Hallett race shop.

Good to see and wish you and the car owner the best!

PCA runs a nice event at Gateway in StL in Oct, any plans to be there?

There is some serious money in that whole operation, not just that one 911.

Schedule has not been determined yet. We'll be firming it up next week. I need to get a couple runs in at Hallett to learn the car.

Flying from Tulsa to Miller Motorsports tomorrow for my first Porsche Club race. Event is Friday thru Sunday. Longest track in the country at 4.5 miles with 23 turns and I've never been there or seen it.

I can't find video with a track overlay embedded in the video to try and learn it.

Should be interesting......

UrbanKnight,

That's EXACTLY what I've been trying to find for the FULL Course. The video you provided above is just the outer loop. Any chance you have one for the Full Course?

Everything I have found is either outer, east or west course. I haven't found a full with overlay...

Miller Motorsports Park Race Weekend Recap 9/20 – 22/13

Hit the brakes hard at the end of the front straight going 165 mph during a race and the right rear tire exploded. Catastrophic failure/delamination. Was able to keep it straight and not spin/roll. Wild ride….

It blew on the first of two races on Sunday. Ran Friday and Saturday fine. Pieced it together to get to the grid on time for the last race. Problem was when the tire blew it ripped the hose off one of the turbo intercoolers located right behind the right rear tire. The “fix” to reattach the hose didn’t hold up. The hose popped off at the green flag start for the last race and had no power. I was gridded fourth and had 36 cars behind me coming at full power. Not a good combination. Managed to get out of their way and coasted around for a lap to get credit for the race and pulled into the pits calling it a day.
