Default wiring cutoff switch, kill battery and?

Got a 4 post cutoff switch. I'll kill the battery and what else? Which ignition wire is the correct one? Should I keep the starter wire on the battery or should I run that through the cutoff switch as well? I'm running 2ga wire to the switch.

The threads I searched show guys cutting the alternator wire, but an experienced mechanic buddy is telling me this is bad for the alternator?

There's one power wire to the main distribution block under the hood that will kill everything on a C5. Only one wire to splice into. I'll try and find pictures. I know a forum member who's an electrical engineer posted a good how-to with pictures awhile back.
