I saw a similar C7 at Road Atlanta in March. They were in the garage waiting for the Chin event to finish. Someone told me that the Corvette Development team was there so on the way out, we went by. There was a C7 prototype of some sort sitting outside the garage and when we stopped, all of the engineers came out of the garage and stood behind the C7 in the garage so I didn't get anything more than a glance at it. It was in this same camo paint package.
Great group of guys on that team. They kindly explained to us that we could not look at the car in the garage but could look at the C7 sitting outside with the caveat that it was a hand built prototype and did not represent final quality levels. (Actually, it looked pretty darned good to me for a prototype.)
The team leader explained that they had just came down from VIR where they had 7-days of track time running 7 tanks of fuel through the car per day. I would assume multiple drivers.
Since this was back in March and the article said that these were the first laps on the C7.R, it makes me wonder if perhaps they were testing the C7 ZO6 or ZR-1.....
As we were looking at the base C7, the engineers were looking over my C6Z. They started asking what mods I had done and why. Clearly, they were interested in what was and wasn't working well on the track.
(My input was front calipers, brake cooling, bushings & seats.)

Racer
In another thread, someone was asking about the lack of rear quarter ducts for the trans and diff coolers that were supposedly there because the race team wanted them there. I thought that they were covered over by the vinyl camo, but if those cars were being driven at full song I doubt that. That leads to the question: where ARE the inlets?

Next time you run into them add:
1. a TPMS that does not prevent disengagement of TC and AH
2. heat shields for the tie rods and ball joints
3. SS brake lines
4. tune out that annoying surge you get at ~18mph when slowing
5. a lap dance - I figure since they're asking...
